I have no idea if this has anything to do with the other thread about "Strange Invalid MB overflows..." but I have been holding off starting my thread because I thought it was just me, and I was hoping I would be able to solve it.

These -9 overflows are occurring at an totally unacceptable rate on this computer: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=5355835
Now I know I was having problems in the past with this computer. In the past that seemed to start in Nov/Dec and we were trying to find what was wrong then.
Well, this is not exactly the same computer, the only thing that is the same as it was two weeks ago is the power supply and the HD. I have changed out the MB, memory and processor. The OS is the same, and this computer is the only one of my computers that is giving me problems like this and this is a WINDOWS 8.1.
I was running the lunatics program but I have tried reverting to stock. I am willing to try anything (with the exception of reverting to Win 7).

edit: I also changed the video card.

I have recently gotten about 50 inconclusives in the last 24 hours. The ones I have looked at, have received that same -9 result.

SETI@Home Informational message -9 result_overflow

However, I only have 2 invalids at the moment. I am kind of waiting to see if most of my inconclusives eventually validate, or if they end up in the invalid column.

Unfortunately, I don't have any advice for you. I am still trying to sort through a similar situation, but to a bit of a lesser degree.

If I discover anything more about my situation, I will share it. Perhaps it would help you as well. I am running windows 8 on that machine.

This is a smaller PS on this computer, it is an 800 watt which should be just fine. As for heat, CPU is at 70-75 and the GPU is 60-68 C that is and that should be fine. I just can not imagine either is the cause. The inconclusives continue to occur and they generally seem to become invalids.

Cheers.

I will take a look tomorrow....off to bed now and I have to disconnect and pull the machine out from between two others and snake it out around a cabinet.

Reverting from Lunatics back to stock did not help at all? I am considering trying this for my issue, mainly for lack of any other ideas.

That is correct. It made no difference at all.

I'm having much the same problem but with a kubuntu OS and mine started in mid December with strange things happening with the computer...New Years day my MB died with endless invalids showing on the screen. OK, new MB, CPU and memory installed I restarted Boinc and the invalids continued to pile up.

Nothing that I have attempted has corrected the invalids and the forums have not helped. Yesterday I ordered a new PSU and video card (GeForce GTX660 that I have had my eye on) --- we'll see what happens with them in the box. I'm hoping the PSU is going to be the bad link.

Another box with Win 8.1 keeps on crunching.

This all is very strange!

Ideas I am considering that are purely out of speculation:

(I don't recommend anyone do this, just my thoughts)

1) I wonder if I roll back a little on the NVIDIA drivers to a previous version if any improvement could happen.

2) I wonder if trying to get my windows XP harddrive back and running, and trying to crunch on that, would help any. (I'm running windows 8 right now) (I'm not sure if the newer NVIDIA drivers play nice with XP)

3) I'm wondering if I should get a new power supply, simply due to the fact that my current one is about 8 years old.\

Funny enough, even with a small dose of invalids and a medium dose of inconclusives, my RAC is still much better than it was with my old cards. Ha.

If you're video card is overclocked from the vendor, as most are,
have you tried setting in to run at the reference speeds and voltages?

I have a Palit card that throws errors with Seti@home only. If I set the gpu and memory clocks to the same as the Nvidia reference card it works perfectly.

That is a very interesting idea, Bill. Thanks for mentioning it. You're the first person to bring that idea to my attention. For me, it was overclocked by just a bit according to the reference sheet
Found here.

I've made the adjustment, and we'll see if things improve at all.

Bill G, I found this for your card.

Perhaps you can see if your memory and GPU clocking is in range of what this website suggests? I don't have the expertise to actually recommend you do anything, so please take my advice with a grain of caution. I am just trying a wide variety of things for my own cards.

Be aware that rebooting (and maybe other things) may reset
your settings to the the OC settings. If your problems continue
you may want to check and see that this didn't happen.

I cannot OC my GTX660 at all, I can increase the voltage with no problems, but any OC starts spitting out invalid work. The GTX670 on the other hand runs just fine with a OC.

This is the second video card that has been producing these invalids. It is not throwing errors. The previous card was a 610 and it was doing the same thing. I do not overclock. (Note: default seems to be within the specs for this card)

Wiggo, it is a Corsair GS800 which passed its tests with flying colors from what I read.

Now here is something that I never noticed before. I am getting errors in my Event Log. I never noticed them before and they may have nothing to do with the problem since some WUs overflow and some do not.
Here is the message:
