I think that someone here is now confusing light weight apps with full power software on this subject, they are very different from each other. ;-)

Cheers.

Yes, an app is an application. The term app is short for application. But in the context of discussion they are referring to two different things. Tim was specifically referring to mobile "apps" in the context of his discussion - not applications such as databases.

LOL.
A database is a tier in an application.

You're splitting hairs and still not strengthening your argument.

Let's start over. Tim Berners-Lee said that mobile apps shouldn't exist in his vision for the web/internet, as they create a sort of walled-garden. He said that any mobile app can be done in a web browser, and should be.

Your argument is that not all applications can be run in a web browser, and your example was a database.

Your example is not what Tim was talking about, making your example miss the point of discussion.

Does that clear it up for you?

No.
But a superspeed internet connection (yet to come) will do.

I'm not really sure how much clearer I can make it for you.. unless you're just screwing with me now while being playfully stubborn and just looking to argue.

I'm not looking for an argue:)
It's my costumers who are.
When telling them converting my system to a web solution they always turn back of the cost. There is also many functionality that get lost.

Your customers aren't the one that offered a database as an example argument against Tim Berners-Lee. ;-)

Is this another argument against (looking too much at) Tim Berners-Lee? :-P

Then a neck-ache, and that too was ignored.
And then came the back-ache, and still that was ignored...

Heh. True, it is. But applet wasn't a real word, it's a portmanteau of application and widget. The word implies that it is light-weight and very specific in function or task.

"Government spying is more insidious than censorship. You should be able to look up something sensitive without the feeling that someone is looking over your shoulder."

As internet connectivity and sensors are built into more everyday objects, the advent of the so-called Internet of Things (IoT), there is the need to protect that data from intrusion as readily as other personal information Berners-Lee said.

According to Gartner, there will be nearly 26 billion devices on the Internet of Things by 2020.
My guess is that we people are subject to these devices!
The protocol and software are already done.

Weird question...
Internet of Things (IoT) is already here.
EPCIS is just a subset of what can be done.
The protocol is for free.
The software as well but you have add a lot of code to it to make it work with your environment.

IoT uses Object Name Servers (ONS) in addition to Domaine Name Servers (DNS).
It means that every object can be tracked and you can also do crossreferences to other objects...

Not so weird if you stop & think about it...

Update on the link above

..."The challenge is that we have around 50 different systems at Swanwick and around four million lines of code. This particular glitch was buried in one of those four million lines of code."

Considering that environment if it wasn't so serious, it would be totally hilarious!
