Windows 10 announced today So what happened to "9"? Or is this some sort of pun on the Intel FDIV bug? Windows can't or don't count?!! All very silly... IT is what we allow it to be... As with XP, I will stay with Win 7 Pro until they don't support it anymore, or until I get a new computer. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

Windows can't or don't count?!! Nonsense, they wanted to make a statement that the new thing is far from W8. Next January when it is released will tell. Anything else said is just unfounded speculation |

Oh too bad. People have free will and won't do exactly... Ahhh... But do you have "free will" when in ignorance and being intrusively bombarded by monopoly blanket 'carpet bombing' Marketing or "viral" Marketing? "We have ways of steering what you want..." Those ads really do watch your every move and follow you around... And IT is what we allow it to be... Win XP is an awesome OS. We still have a few computers at work that have it. But they are converting to Win 7. I like Win 7. I have it on my two of my computers at home. So far it seems just as stable as XP. As Win 10. Time will tell. But anything will beat Windows ME. [/quote] Old James |

I'll have to get another SSD soon so I can test it 1st before making a comment on it. Cheers. |

Well the latest desktop/laptop OS figures are in. Win7 use has increased again, WinXP & Vista are steady while all other OS's went down. Cheers. |

Speaking about "cloud"[s] and persistent e-mails how important my 'data' could be, storage in a secure cloud, was the most cheapest way keeping my precious data safe. I end up making my own 'cloud' in a USB 2.0/3.0 HDD's kept somewhere else in my house. No hussle and not dependend on any network (ISP) and easely accessed by me, or my house mates /ladies. |

I have to agree, James. Win XP, may well prove to be the best of the Windows bunch - in my opinion, the most customisable and 'bullet-proof' version of Windows that was not installed over DOS. As per your place of work, mine has gone over to Win 7 and it is only in the last few months that I've changed the PCs at home, based on my experiences at work, to Win 7. I like 7, but not as much as XP - 7 has some very annoying traits, but these are down to MS trying to 'screw things down' I suspect. In fact, I like XP so much, that I'm seriously considering replacing the XP OS on the Win XP drive, with the 64 bit version. If nothing else, I'd at least be able to get the very best out of things like my sound card....the 'hacked' drivers for 7 are pretty good, but I miss the connectivity flexibility of XP. Oh, Win ME? Not the best, but I've got an old PC here that runs it quite reliably, powered by a 500 MHz Intel P3, a massive 13.6 GB drive, nVidia Riva TNT 128, a pair of Diamond Monster 3D accelerators (yep, SLI), a Creative Labs DXR2 Drive and MPEG card, topped off with a Creative AWE 64. It beats the Hell out of this PC for the old games!!! Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

Who is reading who?... Adobe spies on readers: EVERY page you turn, EVERY book you own leaked back to base ... ebook reader software is collecting detailed information about the reading habits of its users – and sending it back to the company in a format that's easy for others to slurp... ... ADE 4 wasn't just collecting this data for its own ebooks, but was also scanning the host computer for all ebooks and sending back information on those as well... ... Since Adobe doesn't actually sell ebooks, this makes the slurping of the data very strange indeed... More 1984?... Guess that is why I don't make use of Adobe! IT is what we allow it to be... There was an interview with the FBI director on CBS news 60 minutes Sunday evening and a portion of the interview dealt with the subject of cyber crime. He asserted that most of the hacking into the US computer network is coming out of mainland China. At one point he stated that virtually every major business in the USA has been hacked, either for information or to steal funds. At that point he was asked if John Q. Public should be worried about hacking into individual private computers and he said he felt we were safe as long as normal precautions are taken. Such as having a firewall up and running at all times and the one other thing he mentioned was to never open an email from an unknown source or click on attachments from unknown senders. I think he was treading lightly regarding the dangers to private home users as not to alarm the general public about the internet. Oh boy, don't know whether to laugh or cry... It would be interesting to know if it was just "how to use an iPhone" or how to use the many gadgets and apps produced for the iPhone that turn it into a media recorder and broadcasting tool. There are several low cost add-ons that allow studio quality speech and interviews to be broadcast straight from an iPhone/iPad. Using wi-Fi/3G Not so many for Android. |
