I agree with Julie. Look for a cheap AMD APU. Example. http://www.amazon.com/Acer-AS7250-3821-Dual-Core-1-65GHz-Notebook/dp/B009D3QI7O/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1389622602&sr=8-10&keywords=notebook+amd With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

Never bought a Celeron, never will. After buying one laptop with an AMD, decided I never would again, but then I got my current travelling netbook with one because I wasn't going for performance, just small and cheap. It's not intended to be a photo or video editor, just for internet and a couple of other low-demand programs. (More than three tabs in Chrome can crash it.) I have had wonderful luck with AMD chips, it helps if you over clock them. I never had a melt down. Close once. |

...for example... For $300.00 Id say its a good deal. But I think most laptops are under rammed in memory. Id have them slap another 4GB of ram in it.
Old James |

Personally I'd go for a base i3 with 8GB of ram and an OEM Win7 Pro disk (which is likely what I'll be getting during this year when I go traveling). Cheers. |

My 'celttooth-PC' cruncher is an i3, with six Gigs of good RAM. It works very well..... |

Is $389 too much? Yes, for a used laptop. |

Last year I bought a HP 635 laptop with SLES11 by SuSE for 269 euro. It had a 320 GB hard disk which spun at 5400 RPM only, so I substituted it with a SSD spending about 100 euro for a 128 GB disk. Then I installed SuSE Linux 12.3 and upped its RAM to 8 GB, spending another 50 euro. Now it runs SETI@home, Einstein@home and Test4Theory@home with Virtual Box 4.3.6 installed. It runs 24/7 with no problem even in summer (no AC). Tullio |

ASUS X102BA-BH41T Touchscreen Laptop (Pink) $200 Its not bad for this price. But beware new games will hardly work on it. Its similar to the C 60. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

ASUS X551CA-HCL1201L Laptop, Internet Security Software, Sleeve, Mouse & Flash Drive Package $200 I took a look at the link. For $200 that sounds like a good deal. Im still not sold on Win 8 yet. My grandson has a laptop with Win 8. maybe I should try it out.
Old James |

Mine: http://www.toshiba.com/us/computers/laptops/satellite/C850/C855-S5123 No, I didn't pay that much; one of my neighbors paid that much (each) for 3 of them and kept one, gave me one and gave the 3rd to my other neighbor, because I had assisted him several times with his old computer problems (minor things) and I was allowing him to use my WiFi no-charge (I don't charge anyone for access - if they choose to assist me with paying for the Internet access, then I don't refuse it, but I don't tell them, "you have to pay $xx.xx"). He gave one to my other neighbor, because he gave him a ride to Mexico for a dentist (for both of them). When he finally got his back-payment for his SSDI, he bought the laptops for us. |
