This is a segment from MSNBC, and there is a great deal of science here, but it is also a political discussion. I thought the link was worth sharing. I kept the title the same as the segment. Bill Nye shares his views here also.

Where Science and Faith Collide

Steve

Edit: I am having trouble getting the link to connect to the right video. The video in question is not about the GOP, but as the title I indicated suggests, which is a video or two after the one the link points to.

Got it. The original link now works as I intended.

All in all, what do you think of the segment itself?
I think that science draws conclusions based on evidence, not politics.
Politics, and beliefs can get in the way of seeking the truth. True science changes when an observation or contradiction occurs that disputes the original theory. It has no political or faith based prerequisites.

+1.

Unfortunately, there's always some mutt out there who will use that science for their own ends, whether that would be beliefs or political.

It was a reference to the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Or are you messing with me here, because I honestly can't tell right now.

I totally agree with you Steve, but I will admit (if others won't) that a majority of the press from around the world had a field day over that PEW survey with the end results being that the USA became the butt of many new jokes and sayings.

Cheers.

She states up front there is no reason why there is a slight shift in the numbers according to a recent pew research poll. Doesn't even hint at the possibility that it's nothing more than poll bias. Then she says it's SO HOT a topic that Bill Nye is going to discuss it with someone somewhere. That makes it HOT?

No, she says there is no new scientific evidence that shows the theory of evolution is wrong, and as such it does not explain why more people stopped believing in it.

Also I think its wrong of Bill Nye to go in debate with that guy from the Creationist museum. All he does is give Creationists a platform and some legitimacy as a valid scientific alternative to evolution when that is clearly not the case.

No, it's not agreed by all scientists what the solution to global warming or evolution is. To make that claim is academically dishonest.

There is no solution to evolution because its not a problem :)

And finally, what does space exploration have to do with global warming and evolution?

I think that more in general, a society that only believes in science when they like the answer is at some point going to run into trouble because they simply fail to keep up with actual science. Such a country no longer produces the high quality scientists needed to operate or maintain advanced technology, let alone progress it. Which results in that country losing its technological advantage over other countries.

Neither. As we all know, it is a disc resting on the backs of four huge elephants which are in turn standing on the back of an enormous turtle.

It's turtles all the way down.

Science and Faith collide when Scientist can only use certain allraedy established stem cells. Meanwhile other stem cells they could use get flushed down the drain.
