Example of a manual how to make a 2nd localhost client: >postid=1377379<.

I did it (it lasts a few hours, but finally it worked ;-).

I use BoincTasks v1.58, the already used client connect/work.
I connect to the 2nd client, attach to SAH (insert the E-Mail and PIN) I see this in the messages:
Fetching configuration file from http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/get_project_config.php
- and this is all.
Nothing happen after this message.
It looks like the client is frozen or something.
I rebooted the PC a few times, restarted BoincTasks a few times, but after BoincTasks connect to the 2nd localhost client it show just the info that the client want to connect to SAH for to D/L the master file (above message).
But nothing happen.
(yes, the network communication is set to always ;-)

Why?

BTW. In which BOINC data directories' cc_config.xml file need to stay "<allow_multiple_clients>"?
In the 1st, the 2nd or both folders/files?

Thanks.

I'm not 100% sure what exactly you're asking, but in the past, I was told that in order to be able to use BOINC Manager (or I would guess BOINC Tasks, as well) to view remote machines, you needed to do two things:

'gui_rpc_auth.cfg' contains the password that is used on that local machine strictly to access BOINC to view the progress or make changes and so forth. You can leave it as the 32-byte hexadecimal value, or change it to something else if you would like.

The second thing you need to do is add a file named 'remote_hosts.cfg' which lists the IP addresses that are allowed to access BOINC remotely.

I've had my single-core machine configured this way for about 5 years and have never had any issues with remote access as long as I was coming from an IP listed in the cfg file.

I would like to let run 2 BOINC clients on 1 PC.

I followed inter alia the above mentioned instructions. And it worked (after some hours).

I use Fred's BoincTasks as Manager over the BOINC client/s.

I started BoincTasks and the 1st BOINC client started as usual (I saw everything in the tabs).
Then I started the 2nd BOINC client and I saw that he's connected to BoincTasks (inter alia the first few messages of BOINC were displayed like we all know it).

Then I opened the attach window and choose SAH and inserted my E-Mail & PIN.
The window said "attached successful to project".
Then I opened BoincTasks/Messages and there was just one additional entry/message to the above mentioned, it looked like:
Project Time Message
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ bla bla Fetching configuration file from http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/get_project_config.php

- and then nothing happened.
The 2nd BOINC client did nothing. He didn't made a contact to the SAH servers. He didn't D/Led the "master file". Nothing. Like frozen.

I would like to know why the 2nd BOINC client don't get in contact with the SAH servers after I insert my E-Mail & PIN and get in the "attach window" "attached successful to project" (so at least E-Mail & PIN were checked online (or happen this on my PC, no internet connection needed?)) - what made I wrong?

Thanks.

Read this as well: http://efmer.com/forum/index.php?topic=856.0

This feature is probably only intended for testing, it seems to work.
I use it mainly for testing.

You may want to leave the console in place for testing, so you can see what's going on.

Both folders should have <allow_multiple_clients>, but this should only be needed if there is a cc_config.xml present.
But it doesn't hurt.

If everything fails check the log in the BOINC folder.

But can you connect to the second client using BoincTasks?

I found my mistake ..

I copied the cc_config.xml file from the 1st BOINC client and used it for the 2nd BOINC client also.
This didn't worked, I guess becauses of one or more entries in it ..

I deleted all, just inserted the <allow_multiple_clients> entry.
Then it worked well (both localhost BOINC clients in BoincTasks).

Thanks.
