Has SAH or Astropulse been tested for V1 / V2 / NH telemetry carrier wave interception? Unless an algorithm can actually detect a known Carrier Wave source, its true ability to function may be questioned. ... AND IT DOES NOT HELP WITH FUNDRAISING EITHER ... SAH needs to find some way of doing monthly intercepts of -- Voyager 1 & 2 -- New Horizons telemetry Possibly using the California Allen Array, as it is Southerly to intercept both. Some new reception kit may be needed, but hopefully less at the Allen Array. This should be carrier wave interception and verification only, no decoding. The decoding of the actual CCSDS Voyager and NH telemetry would require far more advanced methods than SAH can handle. It would really cheer people up if the SAH could routinely detect these test sources, albeit they are in the CCSDS 8.414 GHz and 8.420 GHz band not the 1420 MHz band. The biggest hurdle to overcome is the access to the data from the telescopes - SETI@Home gets its data from wherever the telescope is pointing, and is configured only to work with the H2 band in the region of 1.4GHz. To get data from other sources would have an associated cost both in terms of dollar bills and man-hours. Yes, I did forget to include in the previous posting text that other radio telescopes would have to be used. However, when working DSN spacecraft you have to have a dish that supports (in software and hardware) the ability to track a DSN spacecraft. So, the PR location for SETI would be immediately disqualified. CSIRO Parkes is probably about the only location that could support SETI@Home signal digitization and CCSDS band interception with the least changes. There are others. The ALLEN ARRAY could do SETI test signals work per V1, V2 and NH now -- but some kind of separate signal integration may be needed as a single dish in this array is nearly deaf per Voyager Craft signals interception. |
