It has become a January tradition for me to review the photos we took the year before and post a few, along with various bits of advice from members of the Korpela Family. So here, for your review, are our thoughts from 2013... Eric advises that you hang out with smart people. I am delighted to report that Harrison LOVED my screen play!!! Eva hopes that you are not led into temptation... (But if temptation should happen to come your way, she COMPLETELY understands!) Zsa Zsa recommends that if you are not sure how to proceed, just sleep on it... Stinky Lou wishes to remind you that the devil is in the details! Spawnie hopes that you always walk proud. Angela reminds you to celebrate what you do! Captain Eric instructs you to please make sure that your chair is in its upright and locked position and that your seat belt is securely fastened low and tight across your waist BEFORE you begin your flight... In this picture Eric assembles a gargantuan, cheap, 600+++ piece press board "desk complex" for my oldest godchild, who had just begun medical school. When I told Eric that we would be spending the entire weekend screwing, this is NOT what he had in mind... Of course, it goes without saying that if you feed them, they will come... Happy New Year, from our home to yours! |

Thank you for all the kind comments. I had fun doing that post. Thank you Angela for the yearly update. I have to ask did Eric get that desk done without help? Best wishes for you and Eric in the new year.
Old James |

Thank you Angela for the yearly update. I have to ask did Eric get that desk done without help? My godchild Danielle helped. I pretty much just took pictures and played with Danielle's dog, Badger. Eric and I were only in Washington D.C. for an extended weekend visit and when we arrived we discovered that Danielle had ordered a desk, a bookshelf, 2 arm chairs and a coffee table - all of which were still in their boxes, unassembled. Danielle owned one screwdriver and it was not electric. I snapped that shot of Eric early on in the weekend. After a few hours of frustration he drove to a hardware store and bought Danielle an electric multi-use tool that probably cost more than all of her new furniture combined. It made everything come together must faster! |

Our Fryja cat was very intrested in the pix of your Zsa Zsa Cat. LOL! I can certainly see why!!! They do look alike. Zsa Zsa is a tortie-tabby and my absolute favorite of the lot. Although she is only 3 years old, we noticed this summer that she was losing her vision. She has been seen by three different kitty cat ophthalmologists (Yes, such things exist out here in pet-crazy California!!!) and after countless expensive tests, fungal panels, bacterial cultures, office visits, medications etc, etc, etc the veterinary vision specialists have two different working hypotheses. Either Zsa Zsa has some sort of lymphoma type cancer that initially becomes symptomatic in the eyes and eventually spreads OR Zsa Zsa has some genetic defect that causes progressive blindness. Right now she has one completely blind eye and one nearly blind eye. One of the three vet specialists wants to remove her blind eye and get a definitive diagnosis. Eric and I have opted not to put Z-cat through that trauma. If Zsa Zsa does have cancer, we have already decided not to treat it aggressively, so we see no point in removing one of her eyes to get a definitive diagnosis. If it is a genetic condition, then we have to assume that Zsa Zsa will eventually learn to use her other senses to get around. She is an indoor only cat, and given that she has whiskers and no evidence of a hearing loss we have to assume that she will adjust. It is very sad though. She used to be our best jumper and now she hardly jumps on anything at all. She rarely plays now too. I do not know if that is due to the vision impairment or if that is because she is just not feeling well. She also seems to be cold all the time and she has taken to sleeping on our heater vents. In December we started keeping a heating pad plugged in at night for her to lay on if she is cold. So far she is still eating, drinking, finding the litter box, moving around and seeking affection. Eric and I are prepared to do "the right thing" if it seems like she is in pain or if her quality of life takes a significant down turn. I just can't get used to Eric without the whiskers! Eric starts growing his beard at the start of college football season here and he shaves each year after the NFL Super Bowl. It takes me a little time to adjust to him both with and without whiskers. |

Angela I forgot to ask if Eric asked Hans Solo if he could meet Darth Vader?
Old James |

Loved the picture of you and Harrison Ford. :) Angela I forgot to ask if Eric asked Hans Solo if he could meet Darth Vader? I told Harrison to smile big, but all I could get from him was that waxy gaze... |

Zsa Zsa will eventually learn to use her other senses to get around Oh goodness, we do hope she is not in pain. Over a short life I have had to deal with other cats that were the result of poor genes. You are right to assume she can learn to get around as an 'in house cat;' she will come to rely on her other skills while interacting with the pets and people she knows. You may have to provide extra care with her, but that all comes from the love you already have for this beautiful creature. |
