from Reuters...

A BNSF train carrying crude oil in North Dakota collided with another train on Monday setting off a series of explosions that left at least 10 cars ablaze, the latest in a string of incidents that have raised alarms over growing oil-by-rail traffic.

It seems that the authorities are happy to let that train continue to burn.

Cheers.

Maybe they should build a pipeline? It sure beats letting crude burn out after every derailment.

There's probably at least one in the planning and environmental review stages, but I imagine it takes several years to get through all that, acquire right of way, and actually build it. Moving oil by train gives flexibility of destination, even while it's already en route.
