I like the idea of being a one percenter:

Badges are symbols of accomplishment by volunteers or teams - for example, how much computing they've contributed. Badges are shown as icons on project web sites. In the future, they may also be shown in client GUIs and statistics sites.

But it's a good idea...
And badges for the posts ;)

I suspect there may be more to come on this - perhaps badges for total credits or something. Seems to be "under construction" and perhaps that's why there has been no comment from the project.

Milkyway announced a badge system 2 weeks ago and expected to implement it within a few days, but has not done so. Perhaps they are the one that asked for web page changes to accomodate it.

For info, here's what Milkyway plans to implement. I think this is the latest, but there have been changes and I may not have one:

As a user, you can expect to have between 0 and 4 badges on your MW profile:

"Joined MilkyWay@home": This badge is awarded to everyone who crunches at least one work unit for our project, as a Thank You for helping out!

•"Credits Earned": This badge represents the latest credit milestone that a user has passed, ranging from 10,000 (10k) to 10 billion (10B).

•"Years of Service": This badge displays the number of years that a user has been with MilkyWay@home! (The first of these badges is acquired after one full year)

•"Special Contribution": This badge goes to anyone who has donated hardware, money, significant expertise, or service towards the project.

I think it is interesting that Milkyway went for total credits and years of crunching, and so far SETI has gone for RAC.

It's not Seti that has gone for it, it is DA adding Official support for Badges into Boinc.

What we have now is just the defaults which Dr. Anderson put into the BOINC source code. Projects are free to modify it as they feel appropriate.

It would be trivial to change the badge images to toasters, for instance.

The MilkyWay@home project is right to distribute several types of badges.
This allows to reward all forms of involvement in a project.
Indeed, not everyone has the same computer configurations and even financial resources to allocate to the crunch.
This is a good thing also reward loyalty (the number of years of participation in the project), the number of posts (participation in forums lives) and also accumulated credits.
That will come with time maybe...
Well done MW@H ! :)

The reality is far worse than pop culture would have you believe. I know this first hand. Been there, done that and have the t-shirt & scars, and police record to prove it.

I prefer the 1% badge that I received here rather than the one I used to have. Change is a good thing.

I assume the badge RAC is according to BOINC rather than SETI
~640 (SETI) and ~(510) BOINC and no bronze badge so maybe a few more days of crunching for bronze.

Badges for a variety involvement is probably the way to go RAC active/very active participants, major milestones for long term, significant achievements. Length of Service?? summarizes how long you've participated at least.

If there are no major milestone badges I'll tweak my avatar every so often to acknowledge the major milestones I have aimed for and achieved.

(Currently another 6 months for 1M for SETI. It will take me another 6 years for MW 500K badge if I maintained the RAC levels today)

Thats weird indeed.

I can see others with same RAC got the silver badge.
Even without a team.

SETI's RAC can be manipulated with the way AP gives so much more credit; just look at the top hosts closely, 100 units in progress all AP. That one guy from SE Asia still has over 400 AP units in progress.

The best way to get RAC and badges is to say to heck with science and put "cobblestones" first.

Something is not right. You should have a silver, RAC as low as 3,217 has silver.

I'm thinking that the badge awarded is a function of both total credit and RAC.
