Why and when do you put your pc into hibernation? I don't think Seti works well with the OS going into hibernation. |

I close my laptop lid. It didn't happen last time I did it which I'm guessing means that I not only have to shutdown SETI@home it has to be shut down for a unknown amount of time. |

seti/boinc doesnt like the hibernate state. You are better off just shutting the laptop down or change your power status to always on and just let it run seti. IIRC BOINC will still try to run work in the hibernate state and that might be the reason for the lockups In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

If only for a few minutes leave the top up. If for a regular time, like overnight until morning 10:00 PM to 8:00 am, setup a schedule in computing preferences. |

Thanks. It's probably good for me to shut my computer down once in a while anyway. I wouldn't mind changing the hibernation setting either because I would like it to run while I'm not using, but I don't want the laptop illuminating my room. |

Check the various settings. I used to have an old Gateway laptop that could be set so that shutting the lid only turned off the display and nothing else so long programs could run unattended overnight. I think the setting for that was in the bios. Back in Win98 days. |

There is an option in Windows to control the behavior of closing the lid. You can select from "Do Nothing" to "Sleep" to "Hibernate". If you want to close the lid but still crunch, change it to "Do nothing". |
