I just upgraded my machine to the latest version of seti. It will not accept tasks. What is wrong. I tried upgrading my second machine that had the same problem to a newer version of ubunto and that really messed me up. I can not even find where to run the programs. It keeps trying to reload them new and I am unable to even find bonic. is anyone able to help me. |

this typically happens when the user installs BOINC using a software manager and gets it from a repository. installing manually over this doesn't install BOINC in the files that they previously resided. I suggest backing off of the upgrade and if possible find BOINC in a repository and all your software manager to install it. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. One of your Linux Boxes has been running with an app_info with only Seti Enhanced (v6) in it, this application is basically deprecated, there is no more work for it, it has been replaced with Seti v7, this runs a different application to what was used with Seti v6, eithier remove your app_info, then restart Boinc, or replace your app_info with one containing Set v7 apps. The version you downloaded is probably fine, but you have a file that tells Boinc to only use the old version. You need to modify or remove that file. I deleted the version i was running and re-installed using the version in the ubunto repository and this is the version that is still not working. is there a better place to go to get it. What exactly did you delete?, and what did you re-install? Bear in mind that Boinc and Seti are separate, Boinc is just the Managing program for running different project's applications, be it Seti, Milkyway, Einstein, CPDN, etc. Both your Linux host are running old releases, one is on 6.10.17 which was the initial 6.10.x release and was quite Buggy, this was replace with 6.10.58 which was a lot better, The other Linux host is running Boinc 7.0.27, this is also the initial 7.0.x release and had it's fair share of Bugs too, this has been replaced with 7.0.65 which is a lot more refined. (The latest Berkeley Recommended Release is Boinc 7.2.33. But Ubuntu hasn't caught up with that yet) When you change Boinc versions you should choose the latest version number, not Ubuntu's default version, choose either 6.10.58, 7.0.65 or if it's available 7.2.33 Now on to Setiathome, Both your Linux hosts have been running with an app_info (with old Seti v6 apps in it, while Seti is on v7 now) that you would have applied yourself, this overrides getting the Stock apps meaning you're got to remove it yourself, or do a detach and reattach to get rid of them, Uninstalling Boinc then re-installing Boinc from the Ubunto Repository won't remove the app_info because the data directory is always preserved as it was. Unfortunately I have not gotten enough training to do what you guys suggest. My ubunto knowledge is very minimal due to lack of time to read the docs. I did get one machine running by a total uninstall and then re-installing but the other one is still messed up. I can't even figure how to do anything on the one machine. it is so different that i can not even find how to start programs. i thought i found it but all what i found is how to uninstall or install. Donald is now up and running boinc. He just needed a little Linux help. Recent Ubuntu defaults to a window manager that looks tablet-y, which many find annoying and difficult (I dislike that too, on my desktop anyway). Switching to xfce as window manager helped. |
