I agree that a phone book contains "information"; If I burn that phonebook to ashes then I claim that all of hat information is, in fact, destroyed.

Furthermore, our system of arithmetic (algebra) is not 100% consistent--it must appeal to outside influences to prove every true theorem within the mathematical system.

If I were as intelligent as these men then I would be able to point out why these observations don't contradict what is being discussed and put forward in this video.

Is algebra linked to our decimal system ? What would happends to these formuleas if we would work on a system that use '8' or '12' or '14' as base ? would still work right ?

Algebra, in fact all forms of mathematics are independent of our counting methods. Computers work in base 2, just zeros and ones and the results are translated into base 10 and could just as easily be transferred into base 8, 12 or 14.

We might not have gotten this far if we had stuck with Roman numerals though as that system has no zero.

My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events.

It was Leonardo Pisano, also called Leonardo Fibonacci, that is son of Bonaccio, who introduced the Arabic numerals in the Western world. He was the son af a Consul of the Pisa Republic in Algerie.I have a book on him with chapters written by a physicist, Luigi Radicati, and a mathematician, Enrico Bombieri.

Tullio et al,

If you send me a private message I can send you a scholarly work on the Contributions of Leonardo Bonnaccio of Pisa and a look into hidden structure in Mathematics that I did a few years back. Remember back in 1202 the Italians still spoke Latin and were using Roman numerals--still waiting for Dante Alighieri to invent the Italian language.
