A thread to discuss what we're cooking this year, how we're decorating our homes, how we're handling host and hostessing stress and whatever other holiday entertaining topics you would like to explore...

To start us off, I thought this was particularly amusing.

Holiday Dinner Party

Happy Holidays!!!

This year I did not do my normal outdoor decorations like I normally do. I will admit right now that if I had listend to my wife and did them the weekend when she said to do them.......... But NO I said i will do them next weekend. Well I suppose you can guess that ever since that day the weather has sucked big time. First it was rain and windy then it was cold and windy, Then after that it was really cold and snowy. When she suggested that I put them up the first time it was 50 degrres F. and no wind. So I have just 3 strings of really cheesy creative lights up. My wife has not said a word. I will tough it out this weekend and put a few more out.

For Christmas we are going to a daughters house. It will be a food fest. My brother in law does prime rib. We have Ham. My son in law is Itailian so there is plenty of pasta. If you leave hungry its your own fault.

Now that Im 61,I find that I take it more easy when it comes to stress. Its not worth being hyper over simple stuff. Beacause in years future Your going to laugh about it any way. And thats how familly memories are made.
Im going to have a great holiday season. And I hope everyone on the boards has one aslo.

My Christmas decoration story is very similar to Jame's. Finally have about two thirds of the decorations up, in brief periods of not-too-s**tty weather. The rest are just not going to happen.

This is our first Chirstmas as mostly just 2, so we are keeping it low key. Number one child has moved to Denver, new job with no vacation time, may see her for a day or two. Number two child is junior man in a bank IT department and is stuck with the worst possible shifts over the holidays. Might see him for a different day or two. Numerous other local relatives have medical issues (comes with age) or other family commitments this year.

So, lots of food in house, lots of books, and the PVR going full tilt. We plan to travel to someplace warm in January, so staying home for now.

I am definitely not going low key this year. We have a ton of relatives coming over Sunday for our annual family cookie party and we also happen to be hosting family Christmas dinner this year. I like being busy, but I may have bitten off a little too much this year.

I'm willing to bet you'll find some way to pull it off. You seem like the kind of lady that always does. :-)

I'm half done with my baking for Sunday and the night is young. Got to make sure all the cookie jars are filled to the brim!

I'm not having anyone over and so far no one has invited me anywhere. Right now it looks like I won't even make any cookies like I did last year.
