press release...

Using the powerful eye of NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, two teams of scientists have found faint signatures of water in the atmospheres of five distant planets.

The presence of atmospheric water was reported previously on a few exoplanets orbiting stars beyond our solar system, but this is the first study to conclusively measure and compare the profiles and intensities of these signatures on multiple worlds.

I hope they are right and that the trend continues to reveal a high percentage of planets with at least trace amounts of water. The more planets they discover with water the better chance there is of finding life in some form.

"The team was able to confirm that the planet is moving together with its host star by examining Hubble Space Telescope data taken eight years prior for another research programme."

The impossible planet

Interesting.
