The latest newsletter mentioned SERENDIP VI, but I can only find tech specs up to SERENDIP V on the web. Anybody have any idea how much stronger VI will be compared to V? You will be assimilated...bunghole! |

The current SERENDIP V is FPGA-based, 128 million channels over 200 MHz. Jeff Cobb advised that the proposed estimate for the new SERENDIP VI receivers is 350 million channels over 300 MHz... there will be two as one is going to Green Bank. They are going to use commercial GPUs as well as FPGAs. The team is still finalizing which type of video card/GPU to use; GTX780ti's were initially proposed. We do have the fundraiser for it going already and I am matching the contributions if anyone wants to chip in. It will hit the forums when the cards and thus amounts are finalized, if the team does decide to change them (and if so they will inevitably be more expensive!) but I'm hoping to bring the amount down to less than $4K so it can be done in one fundraiser weekend when this happens. |
