OK Folks, I Got a Little needed sleep and have talked to Pat on the Phone.
She has an Abscess on Her Colon about the size of a Lemon...They took her in for Minor Surgery this Morning to put in a Drain Tube and that went good (The Abscess was about to Rupture). She is NPO (No Food Or Water) and as soon as they feel that the Infection is down enough They are going to have to Remove a section of Her Colon and do a Re-sect (Hopefully) So Maybe she won't have to get a Bag or if so could be only temporary...Again Hopefully.
This Shoots the Holidays in the @$$ again this year because the money that We were going to get Our Cooking Gas with is having to be split as far as I can get it to s t r e t c h.
I Have to make that 85 mile round trip going Again tomorrow so I can take her Phone to her (The New Battery brought it back to Life) So She can make calls out from there.
I'm Praying for the best possible outcome but if She ends up on a Colostomy Bag long term She WILL want to die...I Know her that well.
Needless to say, but with all that has happened lately with Sheila & John and now This has almost broken Me. I'm running out of options way too Fast and am Drained.
Gee...Ain't I a H311 of a lot of fun and trouble! :-| <---That's ME!!!

Jim,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife. Just to let you know, my dad had colon cancer several years ago. His first surgery, they remade his rectum and allowed him to go normally. However; since they took part of the colon and shortened the small intestine, he had to go more often. He let this be for several months; but then chose to have a second surgery, and had a colostomy bag put in permanently. He did this, because after shortening the colon and small intestine he was going more often and didn't want to have accidents. He's now been living with the bag for a few years, (I've lost track how long), and it doesn't bother him. It was the best move.

So, if they have to, they have to. It's not the end of the world. My dad is cancer free and is living life to the fullest. He is an active General Contractor, and is now 72. He will be 73 December 24Th. However; for just a small resection of the colon, I would not anticipate them needing to have her on a bag long term. Only if they are taking a larger portion of the colon and part of the small intestine would I consider a permanent bag situation.

Again, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife.

God Bless.

Im sorry to hear your wife is in the hospital. My dad had colon cancer when he was 65 and they did took out 10" of colon and he had no bag. He lived to be 81 and cancer free.

I had diverticulitus so bad my surgeon told me right out that I could waite and when it perforated, If I lived through the infection I would have a bag for many months. Or I could have a bowel resection, I said lets operate. They took 8 inches of my sigmoid colon. And I had no bag, That was in 1999.

Be strong for your wife. We will be strong for you and her. Best well wishes for you both.
