How often do you do SPECIAL cleanups of the database. I have several old computers that have been off line since June 2013. I would like to delete them but I can't since they have work units attached. These work units appear to be stuck in every possible status. Thanks Steve |

Any tasks sitting on your "old" computers since June will now be "timing out", so will be being re-allocated to other users; you can turn these computers off. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

No, it's about the entries in the database. They can't be deleted as long as there are (stuck) work units in their task list. Gruß Gundolf |

The "error while downloading" are effectively lost to you. The task has/will be reassigned to another user. You will never get any credit for this task. The "completed waiting validation" are now awaiting the actions of others. Credits will be distributed in the normal way when the WU validates. The "completed and validated" are waiting on the servers to sort their lives out. You have received your credits for this task, so don't worry about it. I would not delete the computers concerned, just turn them off and let SETI take its natural course. I still haven't received an answer to my original question. I fully understand how it all works, What I want to know is WHEN will these stuck work unit be deleted from the computers that are no longer running. This needs to go to Matt, I sure there are other stuck work units. |

I still haven't received an answer to my original question. I fully understand how it all works, What I want to know is WHEN will these stuck work unit be deleted from the computers that are no longer running. This needs to go to Matt, I sure there are other stuck work units. There are probably thousands of them. Matt isn't around much at all anymore, thanks to reduced project funding and his own personal schedule. The truth is, database cleanup is not anywhere close to the top of anyone's priority list, so I'd be surprised to see it addressed anytime soon. FWIW, the last two rigs I "decommissioned" sat in my computer list for well over a year before all the workunits disappeared and I could delete them. |

The answer is, as Gatekeeper says very infrequently, because is not critical to the project to do so. You don't even have to delete computers, just ignore them they are doing no harm. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |
