Well, considering I'm now officially a "senior" (i.e. old fart), have a family history of dimentia,

Why do you think you have mad cow disease?

The Red Cross won't let me donate blood because I was stationed in
Europe (Germany) during a certain timeframe when mad cow was a
threat. I thought it would be more fun to have mad cow disease than
dementia, so I'm going with mad cow.

And I said that I may have mad cow disease. I don't actually
think I have it.

Incidentally, people with some incurable STDs can donate blood,
but not completely healthy people who may have been exposed
to mad cows.

As I recall, it was in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The missile boat I rode from 1979-1982 operated out of Holy Loch, Scotland, but I was just outside the timeframe and didn't come in contact with livestock, so I can donate.

I was stationed at Augsburg in late 1973, then up on the E/W German border (when there was one) from '73-'75, then In the Kaiserslautern area '76-'78, and again '81-'84, and finally in the Würzburg area from '89-'92. I think the last one is the only one that counts, iirc.
I'll have to go look for a link. I suspect there should be something about it on the Red Cross site.

It's not about coming in contact with livestock. It's about eating meat. You
can get "mad cow" from eating the beef of an infected cow.

It's not about coming in contact with livestock. It's about eating meat. You

I have eaten plenty of raw meat in my youth. Now I want everything well done tho.

Could be...

I've read that raccoons were imported to Germany a few decades ago to be farmed for their pelts. Turned out not to be a lucrative endeavor and the raccoons were set free. Now they are an invasive exotic wreaking havoc in a country where they most certainly did not evolve.

I have also read that Japan has a raccoon problem as well. Because raccoons look so darn cute, they were imported to Japan as potential pets. Raccoons make really lousy indoor pets. Enough failed pets were loosed into "the wild" that now there are breeding populations on several of the Japanese islands. The raccoons are destroying ancient Japanese wooden temples that are important historic and cultural icons.

Much as I love my "little woodland friends", they can be terrible and destructive little pests and they really should not be imported out of North America.
