I read that... but you read:

- Currently !VirtualBox VMs can't run GPU applications. This may change in the future.

Is still true?

Sure looks that way to me. I don't
see any around that either. I'd say it was included to
cover the projects that run under Virtualbox.

You can say no to installing Virtualbox.

New BOINC version with Virtualbox.

What is this?

Tim

There are two flavours you can download. One with virtualbox and one without. You can also download virtualbox on its own from the oracle site. You only need virtualbox if you are going to run a project that uses it such as Test4Theory. If you don't want to run one of the virtualbox projects then it's best to get the version without.

The virtualbox version bundled with BOINC is already (slightly) out of date which is one reason you might want to get it directly from oracle.

The VirtualBox bundled with BOINC has been chosen, from experience, as one which has a good track record of running BOINC projects - in other words, for compatibility.

Later versions may be better for other uses, but for bundling and using with BOINC, this one seems best for now. Check the message boards of the VBox project you wish to run under BOINC, before upgrading unilaterally.

The latest version available from Oracle (4.3.2) has a critical bug that stops work-fetch from T4T. Hence why they say 4.2.16 is recommended, and why that version is included in the installer.

That GPUs don't work in VirtualBox is because they aren't emulated. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VirtualBox#Device_virtualization for more information.

By default VirtualBox provides graphics support through a custom virtual graphics-card that is VESA compatible. The Guest Additions for Windows, Linux, Solaris, OpenSolaris, or OS/2 guests include a special video-driver that increases video performance and includes additional features, such as automatically adjusting the guest resolution when resizing the VM window or desktop composition via virtualized WDDM drivers.

That is Basically 7.2.28 with one Bug fix:

Just to clarify what has happened the last couple of days.

I released 7.2.31 which is really 7.2.28 plus the one fix required to prevent downloading of images within notices. It does NOT contain any of the other changes that were included in the .29 and .30 builds.

I have a .32 build I'm putting together that will contain the sub-second CPU throttling and app config changes.

.32+ will be part of a second 7.2 public release cycle. WCG wants a new WCG branded client with sub-second CPU throttling and the app config changes. I expect these two changes will be the only major changes going into this next public release. I think we can get it tested and ready for release before next year.

The sub-second CPU throttling mechanism is isolated enough we can turn it off if it turns out that we cannot get the issues resolved before WCG is ready to deploy it.

I think we are in pretty good shape for this testing cycle.

No, It's 7.2.31 that is Recommended, that version is the same as 7.2.28.1 (7.2.28 with the Bug Manager Bug fix), 7.2.32 is the version that has the experimental stuff in it, that one isn't recommened.
