He liked to do the car talk at Electric Park, and since I don't like to, I said he could. He gives a very long talk about the history of streetcars, and this particular car, and electric parks. On that subject, he says that they were much more sedate than amusement parks are today. You might, for example, rent a rowboat and serenade your young lady with your ukulele. Which brought him to the poem he would conclude with, "while I have you trapped here." (By the end of the day, I would close the doors when he said that.) Any girl can be gay In a fancy coupÃ©, And in a taxi all can be jolly. But the girl who's worthwhile Is the one who can smile While taking her home on the trolley. And he would spin around to me and say "hit it." (Again, by the end of the day, I would wait about one second for the passengers to react and then DING DING and take off. In fact, on the last few trips I released the brake as soon as we stopped to speed up my start.) I do not plan to add this to my own car talk.
