In http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=1349746738, my wingmate and I returned the same signal counts, but his result is marked invalid. It hasn't even been sent to a 3rd host yet. In another unit I just returned this morning, the wingmate (a different one than above) is also marked invalid, but in this case his Stderr doesn't have the section that lists the signal counts. I'm just wondering how the server decided these were invalid. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

As always: from the uploaded results file, which contains vastly more information about the nature of the signals found than you'll ever want to know. |

I don't know "how the server decided these were invalid" (have to be something in the result file, not in stderr_txt) but he has more invalids (and some are 'lone' invalids) http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=7029894&offset=0&show_names=0&state=5&appid= http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=1349510109 And he runs overclocked: clockRate = 1401 MHz http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=3222356369 Processor Clock (MHz) 1215 MHz http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-480/specifications His 'validated' tasks (Computer 7029894) have big difference in printed signal counts in stderr_txt compared to other 'validated' tasks in the same WU (probably because the other tasks are done with CPU apps): http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=1348142920 Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

To put a bit more flesh on that, the results file (that is checked by the validator) contains an entry for each signal that was found [was above threshold] if it's not a -9 it also contains a section on 'best signal' for each signal type. The validator checks that each of that reported signal matches (within a certain error) between relsuts and that the best signals are also the same. If there is disagreement it becomes inconclusive. the 'odd' result may still get credit (but not become canonical) if it doesn't deveiate too much from the canonical. Results can become instantly invalid if they are V6 on a V7 task (determined by checking if there was a best autocorr recorded, unless -9) or if the result file is garbled. Somebody in a different thread is having problems with result becoming invalid too, where stderr shows nothing untoward. Stderr however is only the human readable part, what matters is the result file. A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read. (Mark Twain) |
