Mrs. aka_Sam (aka_Patrice) doesn't crunch mainly because her laptop kicked the bucket a month ago. (She may get a new one for Xmas, shhhh! don't tell!) Is it permitted for me to let her sign up and crunch using my computer or would that be considered bad form? I do realize that I'd have to temporarily stop crunching SAH, at least until she has enough RAC to post. |

Mrs. aka_Sam (aka_Patrice) doesn't crunch mainly because her laptop kicked the bucket a month ago. (She may get a new one for Xmas, shhhh! don't tell!) I got an answer. Well, an opinion, at least. I believe that's perfectly fine. The computer can only work on one account at a time, of course. I would suggest you set it to no new tasks and let it finish what it has on your account before switching it to hers. Mrs. aka_Sam (aka_Patrice) doesn't crunch mainly because her laptop kicked the bucket a month ago. (She may get a new one for Xmas, shhhh! don't tell!) Already did that. Got about 4 or 5 days left before my cache runs dry. |

I look forward to seeing Patrice post here. I see absolutely nothing wrong with sharing your cruncher. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

I look forward to seeing Patrice post here. I see absolutely nothing wrong with sharing your cruncher. I agree. It would, though, be "somewhat helpful to us" if you could remember to log in with the correct account when each of you post! (Logging in to the forums has nothing to do with which account happens to be crunching at the time). |

Why do the moderators continually banish the same posters over and over again? In the process allow them back only to again banish them later. Should they not be banished for ever i.e. not let back in or if the intention is to let them back in then should the term "Banished" be changed to read "Suspended". Good point Nick. Suspended would be a better term. Care to help fix the code? Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

Perma-bans are problematic. Difficult posters just open new accounts... sometimes 30 or 40 new accounts! Contrary to popular belief, the purpose of a banishment period is not supposed to be "punishment". Rather, banishment is a tool moderators have the option of using to get some relief from posters who are being so problematic that moderating becomes extremely difficult. Moderators are supposed to use a "light hand", but if a poster is being super difficult, no moderator needs to be a hero. We've all had a post or two hidden, right? You find that irritating, perhaps initially even infuriating, but you rather quickly brush it off and move on because you are an adult with normal cognitive functioning. Folks who are banned again and again and again tend not to be so robustly normal. As annoying as we may find them, our problematic posters are also in need of our understanding and our compassion. Don't get me wrong. We do not need to tolerate offensive behavior. Just try to keep a tiny place in your heart open for those who struggle with mental illness or other types of illnesses. |

True, but some who are suspended seem to still honor the Rules. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

Perma-bans are problematic. Difficult posters just open new accounts... sometimes 30 or 40 new accounts! Perhaps one way of limiting this multi-accounts get round is to make it mandatory that all seti members wishing to contribute to threads must first have made a donation to seti. Then afterwards any further donations become purely voluntary. Hence any member wishing to operate multiple accounts will have to have made multiple donations in the process. May not stop all multiple accounts but will sure help the finances of seti a lot more. So if some members wish to be rogues then let them pay for being so. Better still, if you get banished you have to make a donation to seti before you are allowed back in. I like your idea and for the first time EVER, I have three Kitties in my room. Tessie, Tinkerbell and Ziggy. I think, they agree, just not sure the rest of the Setizens do. BTW, They think they are in charge NOT. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

Well it's food for thought but may end up giving the moderators a greater element of control in the long run. The Kite Fliers -------------------- Kite fliers: An imaginary club of solo members, those who don't yet belong to a formal team so "fly their own kites" - as the saying goes. |

Perma-bans are problematic. Difficult posters just open new accounts... sometimes 30 or 40 new accounts! Yep most of us here have had a post or two hidden. And I would say that some of us knew that they would be hidden but posted any way. And I include my self in both catergories. But I have so far (knock on wood) not been banished. There are some lines in the sand that do not need to be crossed no matter what your anger, Frustration or point is. I can say those who get a vacation desereved it. We can only hope that they learn that certain things will not be tolerated. [/quote] Old James |

We can only hope that they learn that certain things will not be tolerated. Yet in a way, James, they are tolerated because they continually offend. If we can't stop them continually offending then let seti make them pay for this offence. We can only hope that they learn that certain things will not be tolerated. Some of us can only afford to donate our computer/s' time to projects, but I'll agree to those that over step the line continually to pay the penalty, so long as a green star isn't included unless the donation well above the penalty. Stopping members from hiding their computers would also help a lot too to stop those few people taking up multiple accounts (we can't see any personal identifying details anyway so why should they be hidden to start with?). Cheers. |

I haven't been banished once since I gave up drinking and posting. Or is that drunk posting? :-) Funny how that works. |
