Dark Matter Search Considers Exotic Possibilities:

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=dark-matter-exotic-possibilities&utm_content=buffer7d357&utm_source=buffer&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=Buffer

Physicists still have no proof that dark matter exists at all, but the evidence for it is substantial. The movements of stars and galaxies can apparently be explained only if there is much more gravitating matter in the universe than the visible stuff of atoms and molecules. Attempts to correct the discrepancy by rewriting the rules of gravity in Einstein's general theory of relativity have repeatedly failed.

Thanks Julie.

Just because they can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there.

New Cosmic Distance Measurement Points the Way to Elusive Dark Energy

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md.— More galaxies are separated by 450 million light-years than by any other large distance, astronomers have found in the most precise measurement yet of this key cosmic length scale. Using this scale, researchers calculated astronomical distances with a record low level of 1 percent uncertainty in a measurement that helps clarify what is behind the unexplained dark energy causing the universe's expansion to accelerate.

Astronomers have measured a distance scale in the universe to unprecedented accuracy, opening the door to better tests of dark energy models than ever before.

strange...

By illuminating dark matter with quasar light from around a super-massive black hole, astronomers have seen for the first time ever the strands that constitute a cosmic web and hold the universe together. Scientists in the US and Germany have been able to confirm what has long been suspected, but only before “observed” via computer simulations. Filaments or threads of dark matter have long been presumed to link together the phenomenal voids across intergalactic space. As these don’t emit light though, they have not been possible to see.

I saw that today on Yahoo news. Was watching a program on the subject Saturday night. It struck me that the big picture view of the universe looks a lot like the maps of the human brain.

Dark Matter Disk Could Have Killed Dinosaurs, Scientists Say

A thin disk of dark matter running through the Galaxy might be behind the large meteorite strikes that are thought to be responsible for some of Earth’s mass extinctions, including that of the dinosaurs, two theoretical physicists have proposed.

I guess that is as good an explanation as some I have heard. I also have heard that these events occur when the track of our solar system passes through the plane of the galaxy or when a rouge star passes through the outer edge of the oort cloud disturbing the orbits of comets.

Sorry guys, doesn't cut it with me ....

A thin disk of dark matter running through the Galaxy might be behind the large meteorite strikes that are thought to be responsible for some of Earth’s mass extinctions, including that of the dinosaurs, two theoretical physicists have proposed.

The model is based on a hypothetical form of dark matter described by the authors and their collaborators last year as a means to solve a separate cosmic conundrum. The existence of such a 'dark disk' could be tested soon by astronomical observations.

So many maybes and possibles there, just another scientific paper ....

Assuming is the only thing we can do on a subject like that...

Some hypotheses can be true but non of them are refuted yet, that's why they're called hypotheses I presume:))

The more assumptions that are made the less likely a hypothesis becomes. Dark matter and dark energy could be the result of bad interpretations of the observed data and/or incomplete data leading to false conclusions.

This is not really a work smart not hard way of doing things. It just takes that much longer to place photos and show representations of thoughts theories and ideas.

this could explain what we call dark matter or dark energy. Not just explaining gravity in on downward direction like we do on earth but explaining it in all directions. This would be similar as how we interpret time on earth being far different then how time is interpreted in Space.
If you look at the graphical representation incorporating only two directions combined you can see points that converge more densely. These would be points of very strong gravitational waves creating boundaries and sentry points that keep for example our planet in its delicate balance. Look at the very outer quadrants and you could see a halo of dense gravitational waves being formed. This would mean that in a 3 dimensional sense there would be a outer sphere of dense gravitational waves surrounding the planet at a very large distance from us. maybe containing the moon within that field. How can we measure this to see if it really exists? We have satellites in space that can measure gravitational waves to see if they exist. Maybe that will prove it. This is just my theory. I believe it can be proven mathematically as well. another way to maybe measure the existence is to track a meteor or a comet that enters close to the earth and see if at any point it accelerates, then note the distance of the occurrence, and measure other objects for consistency. This would take a very long time to do, but it would prove the theory. I would believe that at points where gravitational waves are stronger. objects traversing those points would develop acceleration. This could also explain why some accounts of UFO indicate the craft making 90 degree sharp turns and then accelerating rapidly at blinding speed straight up out of the earths atmosphere. They could be manipulating gravitational waves as a propulsion mechanism.

A new study of gamma-ray light from the center of our galaxy makes the strongest case to date that some of this emission may arise from dark matter, an unknown substance making up most of the material universe. Using publicly available data from NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, independent scientists at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Chicago have developed new maps showing that the galactic center produces more high-energy gamma rays than can be explained by known sources and that this excess emission is consistent with some forms of dark matter.

It seems that ultracold neutrons feel only gravity, not dark energy or dark matter.

The intergalactic medium unveiled

Astronomers have taken unprecedented images of the intergalactic medium -- the diffuse gas that connects galaxies throughout the universe -- with the Cosmic Web Imager. Until now, the structure of the IGM has mostly been a matter for theoretical speculation. However, with observations from the Cosmic Web Imager, deployed on the Hale 200-inch telescope at Palomar Observatory, astronomers are obtaining our first three-dimensional pictures of the IGM.

Though you might not think so on a bright sunny day or even a starlit night, fully 96 percent of the mass and energy in the universe is dark energy and dark matter (first inferred by Caltech's Fritz Zwicky in the 1930s), whose existence we know of only due to its effects on the remaining 4 percent that we can see: normal matter. Of this 4 percent that is normal matter, only one-quarter is made up of stars and galaxies, the bright objects that light our night sky. The remainder, which amounts to only about 3 percent of everything in the universe, is the IGM.

Dark matter, the invisible and mysterious stuff that makes up most of the material universe, might be hiding itself in microscopic black holes, says a team of Russian astrophysicists.
