Ok......I'm back but in a small way. Been gone but Seti was always on my mind. Seems that many changes have taken place in the year or more I was gone. Mostly now Seti is sending out stock app's capable of Cuda. Even a Cuda capable app for Astropulse! Wow! I have no idea what this cuda40 or cuda50 is. I have a few issued to me but don't know if they will run on my machine. Currently running on 2 CPU's and 1 Cuda. Try this and see how it goes. Any suggestions?? Welcome Back. As long as your drivers are new enough, any of the Cuda apps will run on your GPU (with the exception of the Cuda22 and Cuda23 apps which only work on legacy GPUs), which one is fastest on your GPU depends on the GPU, Keplars favour Cuda5, while Fermi's favour Cuda42, while legacy GPUs favour Cuda23, the server should eventually send only work for the fastest GPU app, But. I can't believe it! I just saw an Astropulse (cuda) complete in 3626 seconds! That's 1 hour and 26 seconds! I would imagine that the credit awarded has been reduced dramatically for this. Thanks for your response Claggy! Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

My GTX460 can do an OpenCL (Not Cuda) AP in ~35 minutes, the HD7770 in around an hour, as long as you reserve at least a core. Claggy |

My mistake. The one I did was also opencl_nvidia_100. Now I need to pay close attention to everything. So much new stuff.....staff has been busy! The Lunatics are still busy I see. Are their apps faster still? Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

I can't believe it! I just saw an Astropulse (cuda) complete in 3626 seconds! That's 1 hour and 26 seconds! I would imagine that the credit awarded has been reduced dramatically for this.Welcome back! That's a typical time for AP on a fast Nvidia gpu running one at a time. You'll like the credits - usually range from 600 to 800, with outliers up to 1200 and down pretty low for the tasks with a lot of radar blanking. Take a look at my tasks for examples - as to times, I'm running 2 at a time with a 670. You asked for suggestions: 1) Try the optimized apps (William's sticky thread in this forum). The cpu apps can use your cpu's advanced features, and you'll get a newer version of AP for Nvidia. 2) If not interested, you can run more than one gpu task at a time with your version of BOINC. Set up an app_config.xml file and adjust the count like you did with app_info.xml. 3) You're running those cuda and astropulse tasks at below normal priority. You can edit the mbcuda.cfg files to change the priority - there is text in the file to help with syntax. You'll have 3 files - one for 32, 42, and 50, so edit all three. I'm not sure about the stock AP/Nvidia app (R1316). With mine (R1843), you edit ap_cmdline.txt file and add the -hp switch for high priority. The file name may be different with your version. The other thing to note is that the servers are no longer in the tiny closet at SSL up the hill. They are now down on campus in a co-location facility with a gigabit connection to the Internet. And there's a 24/7 staff to power cycle servers that can't be kicked remotely. Many great friends here and I certainly appreciate your comments. The improvements in this project are simply mind boggling and we're sorely needed when I left SETI. It's simply great now. I see Mark is in the hole again. I hope they let him out again soon. I have lots of studying to do. I gotta get up to speed on all this new fangled stuff! Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

Thanks to my many friends here I believe I am up and running optimized. Installed the apps from Lunatics. Glad I got them downloaded before Lunatics went down and could not show me Claggy's link. I installed them late yesterday and everything I have looked at is running faster. I still have 1 on the GPU and 2 on the CPU. See how this goes for a while. It's good to be back!
