This is just my opinion but: If you cannot laugh at death (and its inevitability), then you cannot laugh at life. And life without laughter is just existing. I have no interest in just existing.

It has been a fun, albeit brief, visit but, Good-Bye Seti-At-Home!

Clayton....
I may not be the best one to point this out to you.
Or perhaps I am.

No need to self destruct or leave the project because you had a bad reaction to a post or two of yours.
Pick yerself up and carry on.

I am sure that there are many who have considered your posts to be interesting, no matter what direction you chose to take.
Get over it. I did long ago. I get lambasted time and time again when I post against the grain.
Ok, about face, let's try something else.

Come on, man. Stay the course.

I personally blocked you, msattler, because of issues that I think we would both agree are best left private. You respected me for that and I commend you it. Such is life, eh?

But when moderators post a reprimand publicly it is more than just one poster disagreeing with another. In many ways, a moderator is the Voice of God. Had she simply deleted my offensive post and explained why in the resultant email, fine, but public humiliation is not something that I can willingly cosign to.

There are plenty of other BOINC projects (though I do love SETI) and roughly a zillion other forums to post on so I do feel it is time to go.

[edit] @ Uli and Victor (I think that your name is Victor, yes?(the future, as always, is undecided.))

You shall find most other Boinc project forums most boring.....LOL.
There is only one place like this.

I apologize for our previous misunderstanding.

I tried to tell you that I found you an interesting fellow.

I should like you to stick around, and others do too.

Please reconsider, no time to turn tail and run away.
You have to get thicker skin at times when you don't post mainstream thoughts.

Yes, I am learning this. Albeit, painfully slow. As someone who has looked death in the face more often than I care to remember, it is sometimes difficult to remember that other's have another view of life's Inevitable conclusion.

But I do think that my particular sense of humor and this place are somewhat incompatible.

Do you know MY history concerning death?
The loss of my younger brother to suicide and the circumstances around it, or the loss of a niece to drowning?
I am not sure you have been here long enough to know these things.

Wife dead of pancreatic cancer.

Laughter is the only option we have to 'rage' against it.

I am sorry to hear of that. It obviously causes you great pain. But you have to be careful not to inflict that pain upon others.
I have drank too much, cursed, spat and otherwise questioned God at times 'WHY???'.
But I don't think I personally have ever used humor to deal with it.

Ahh, gradually, I begin to understand this place. Death is inevitable. Humour is the only way to deal with it.

Questioning God? That's a fools errand. Though I do not remember chapter and verse, I do recall God promises to banish death from Heaven. So if you have even an outside chance at Heaven, why not laugh at it? I am pretty sure God remains tongue-in-cheek about the subject.

[edit]
Anyway, I see that the mods have done as I asked and (largely) removed my presence from this place.

It's been fun, but time to go.

Do a youtube on 'Carlin on death'...
You might find it interesting.
I cannot post links here, for obvious reasons. Wish I could.

A Moderator's opinion is not the Voice of God. Volunteers are still posters, just like you, and I encourage them to speak up and have an opinion. We have 7 Mods to ensure that a single opinion doesn't rule the forums. Had the Moderator simply deleted your post, it could have looked like she was over-stepping her authority, as we've had people accuse Mods in the past, and I'm sure we'll have them be accused in the future. I would worry more when you've offended all of the Mods.

I'd really hate to see anyone leave the SETI community over hard feelings. We all have our own views, and sometimes they conflict. It's important to remember what we contribute, and recently you've been doing a great job creating light-hearted discussion, then asked for all of that to be erased.

Leaving is certainly a very personal choice. For what it's worth, I don't think this incident is worth leaving over.

Mark, my memories are my treasure trove. It makes me sad, anytime I read about a poster leaving. But as you said, to each his own.
I am just glad we can agree on two things. We love this project and are big believers in donating.

I never rejoice in a cruncher leaving. Especially for ridiculous reasons.
Yes, Ulihon, we both love this project. I don't think donating ever came into this particular conversation though.
That is a thing the kitties need to work on again.
