Broadwell 14nm cpus, so far this applies only to socket 1150 and not to socket 2011 in the X99 chipset, thankfully I can access IVY Bridge-E on X79(22nm) on My EVGA X79 Classified motherboard, to go to Haswell-E I'd need an X99 motherboard and DDR4 ram and that ram is supposed to be a bit pricey.

I will have to wait and see how my current system holds out. I feel I need to build at the very latest in early 2015 as I build my current I 7 980 X (32 nm) in June 2010

When you get ready to get rid of your 980, I'll be glad to take it off your hands. That way I can swap out my 950 for it and retire my 930, replacing it with the 950. I've got just the MB for it. With a couple of GTX780s or later to replace the GTX660s, I can then retire the GTX460SE. PM me when you're ready and I'll make sure it has a very good home.

When you get ready to get rid of your 980, I'll be glad to take it off your hands. That way I can swap out my 950 for it and retire my 930, replacing it with the 950. I've got just the MB for it. With a couple of GTX780s or later to replace the GTX660s, I can then retire the GTX460SE. PM me when you're ready and I'll make sure it has a very good home.

Haswell-E will require not only a whole new X99 motherboard, but DDR4 ram as well, I'm going to Ivy Bridge-E(22nm cpu) on My EVGA X79 Classified XL-ATX motherboard, Bios is now at v2.03. I'll have the 4820K cpu in about April or so, but I have a few other parts to get before it replaces the 1156 cpu(45nm) and motherboard here.

In 3 years I will be able to build another cruncher and replace my I7 920. So I hope by then every manufacturer has all the kinks worked out for all this new hardware coming out.

But by then my I7 3770's will be old dogs. It never ends does it:)

Unless Intel and AMD, among others, move away from purely Silicon, it could end soon, as the limit is being reached and 14nm is getting really, really, really, really, really, really tiny. Carbon nano tubes are being looked at so that one can go lower of course and an experimental something or other has been made, but beyond that I don't know, but then I've watched cpus from when the 8088 was first introduced...
