Hello People

Please can we have some peace today on the forum.I think the swearing etc has got abit over the top on here.I know WW is very anoying but the swearing etc has gone too far in my eyes. Wordweaver.I know he is a pain and has been spamming this forum alot but I would not swear at him as some of you have done.I understand why are are doing it.Yes.But I think WW feeds on it.He seems to like upsetting people and seems to get a kick out of it.I bet he loves the attention he is getting for sure. But some of the language on here has been below the belt. What can we do to stop the spamming and bad feelings? Can we not email the seti team telling them what is happening?About the spamming etc?Can we simply ignore Wordweaver?Do not read his postings.Stop rating them. Then maybe he will stop posting as there will be no reason for him to continue?

He is free to post as any of us but I have noticed his posts are all negative and are always running other people down. Also the number of his posts is amazing too.The thing is, he is making some people on here aggressive and negative too.Which is a shame.Spoiling the general atmosphere of the forum for other users. Please WW lay off.Call it a day.Move on.You can see you are not wanted on here, so why keep posting as you know what will happen?People will have a go.You know that.To me is seems like you love all this? You like to stir it?Do seti a favour and just leave quietly I say.Or stop your religious negative spamming.
Thanks

Rachel.

Dr. Sullivan summed it up when he posted about 'message board pariah's.

http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum_text_search_action.php?search_string=pariah&bodies=Search

It seems that the latest pariah here has discovered that it's easier to click a mouse than it is to knock on everyone's doors early on weekend mornings.

That message predates my entrance to the fora, but the comment holds true everywhere.

Mostly because you can't bludgeon someone to death with a baseball bat on-line. The best you can hope for is a headshot in Unreal Tournament. And I don't think WordWeaver would join in with me in an "unholy" game.

Hello People

Please can we have some peace today on the forum.
==========

I agree Rachel, if some of these people put as much effort into Crunching WU's as they do ranting and raving at each other Seti would probably get twice as much work done ...

Thanks for this Rachel. I got my 8 year old nephew interested in SETI@home last year but I've had to stop him reading these forums for the last while. It's a real pity but his father would kill me if he saw some of these threads - and he'd be right too. Everyone seems to forget that this forum is read by a lot of children and at the very least the language lately has been far from suitable.

In principal I would have to agree, however, desprite times require desprite measures when a narrow minded bigot wants to hijack the boards for his own private purposes. Logic, reason and patience were of no avail and only precipitated further posting by this unwelcome religous bigot and zealot. This same person tried to entice a minor child into contacting him on these boards, and that requires the greatest sanctions possible, including but not limited to harsh language.

It would be nice if children could visit these boards unsupervised, but keep in mind, that this and other Boinc projects were not designed for, nor were they intended for children. These boards are primarily for the use of adults. It is not a perfect world, so whether you shelter your children from it, or let them see it as it is, is your responsibility and not that of others.

Have a wonderful day.

Don't open posts that you know will be offensive to you. If nobody would open wordweavers post, it would leave him a very lonely person. He undoubtly posts here because nobody listens to him where he lives!

Some of the language is definitely a long way past the line. I wonder if the people that are using it would use it in front of their children or their mother. I’m not a stranger to the words used, I certainly use them myself at work when I am with my male colleagues, but when I am in the presence of the fairer sex I moderate my language (I’m fairly old fashioned like that) and if there is any children around I don’t swear at all (unless I hit my thumb with a hammer). I think that when a post uses unacceptable language everyone should give it a negative rating even if you agree with the general thrust of the post, that way it would be counter productive for someone to use bad language, as people will not see the point they were trying to make.

The rating system is certainly being used to advantage now against the people that the bad language is generally being aimed at, so if their posts are being blocked from view there is really no need to swear anymore.

Dogbytes you are right that the Boinc projects were not designed for children but they are a good way to get children of all ages interested in science.

About six months ago Rom told me that SSL had plans of creating a site specifically for children and schools. I think it would be a great idea, but alas, I guess that they are busier with other more important matters at the moment. Like a good whiskey, it takes time to mature.

As to blocking, if there is a man standing outside of your front door with a loaded shotgun, keeping the door closed doesn't make him go away. You need to defend yourself until the police arrive. Inaction can be far more dangerous.

Lets just hope the cause for all this anger leaves us soon.Wordweaver is the cause and people just want to be able to relax and enjoy Seti Cafe without having to constantly read his negative religious posts. The constant slagging off of people who feel differently to him.Respect and excepting people who are different on a forum which has worldwide members is needed here and Wordweaver does not have either.

>>>>...have some peace today on the forum...

Cursing someone out without vulgarity is a fine art and I apologise for when my efforts to do just that slip on the word 'fine'

One night in a bar I saw an Asian woman reading a letter
I asked her to write the word 'peace'
Somebody help to let me know if on that night
I was kissed or cursed:

Does this mean 'peace'?
Or was she telling me something else?

I use that "kind of language" when it's needed. Although I'd prefer to use an inline graphic (" you too, bub!") as it leaves its interpretation in the mind of the reader, there are just some times when you have to leave the "Fuck" for all to see.

Now that he's gone, life can return to normalcy. Pass the peace pipe, will 'ya?

I think it was Will Smith's grandmother that said, "If you are really an artist you wouldn't need that kind of language."
