I have followed this climate change thing since it was the coming Ice Age. Funny thing. The cause of the coming Ice Age and the coming global melting is the same industrialization the hippies were against on general principles and LSD. But let us ignore this unexplainable coincidence and admit the Luddites were right back in the early 19th c.

Back in 1989 and 1990 we were solemnly assured that if we did not do something about the hippie concerns in ten years it would be too late. Those guys were all in a panic over the ten years or else.

Naive me thought if nothing was done by 2000 they would all pack it in, buy SUVs and party. Little did I realize they were in a perpetual state of panic and would always give the world ten years to do something. Of course there are some wiser heads who simply say, Real Soon!, instead of a giving another year extension every year.

Oddly the same people who were issuing the 1990 warnings, if not retired, are still in the camp of the melters. And you know they have not done? They have not said why they were wrong in 1990. Perhaps I was expecting to much. Don't they know why they were wrong? Why is it never to late? The only prediction I know that has been wrong every year for more years is when Iran will have the bomb, 28 vice 23.

I'd like to point out that the last century was the 20th century or were you referring to doom and gloomers in the 18 hundreds?

Is someone here throwing dirt at us "hippies"? /-\

Oh,.. I just seen the dates, sorry sonny but those were the original "greenies" that you're talking about.

Us "real" "hippies" worked things out. ;-)

OTOH "greenies" arn't that cool really. :-D

But in the end, the so called "radicals" of both parties are/were all just bored uni students with nothing better to do with their lives other to just whine about things. :-)

Cheers.

Over here we call it the "angry young man" syndrome. It's a traditional rite of passage to adulthood.

Touch wood i never went through that phase, though i know many people who did and they do get rather annoying. The sort of people who hold placards and mean it.

Though I do have one friend who went down to London on some university organised protest last year, just because it was free, and his placard read: "I was told there would be biscuits!" That's a sentiment i could get behind.
Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge.

Funny thing ... the warming will be a relatively short trend. It will not continue up, but in fact set in motion the next ice age, much longer relatively speaking. Yee haw. Yippee! Funny thing, eh?

Hey, maybe some certain one group is behind it. You know, dem ELHM followers? No? Then go back to that thread.

Did I not give year and century numbers? I try to keep it simple when trying to be clever. What did I miss?

Is this prediction of yours in the "there is still time to do something" category or "nothing could help after the year 2000" category?

I think it equally important you address why the predictions in those two categories are wrong. What changed in the modeling that changed the prediction? They never seem to explain why the predictions change yet in every other field with understanding improves the improvement is always defined.

Here we have 'it is too late' changing to 'it is never too late' seamlessly, without missing a beat and without an apology much less an explanation.

I can make up an explanation as easily as anyone. Back in the late 1980s the world pop was still supposed to be 50B by 2050. Today it is projected to be 11B by 2050 and that is expected to decrease further.

However in this matter I insist upon a citation of the paper(s) which recite the real explanation.

Doom and gloom

The US radio evangelist Harold Camping built up a ministry worth millions of dollars predicting that 21 May 2011 would be the big one. Camping later admitted he was probably mistaken,
Not much probably about it.

I still think our biggest threat is ourselves. One twitchy finger on a nuclear trigger somewhere is all it's likely to need.

The climate can go hang, it'll take decades possibly centuries before that has any effect.

Perhaps the worst habit the West picked up from the Judean and Galilean religious crazies was a taste for apocalypses. The letters of Paul are predicting the end of the world "Real Soon!"

I prefer Pox Eclipses myself.

from the Judean and Galilean religious crazies

There you go again, treading on unfirm ground.

No abusive comments involving race, religion, nationality, gender, class or sexuality.

Judaism is the religion, philosophy and way of life of the Jewish people.

Jesus preached in Galilee.

I did not know there were any Judeans or Galileans here. Nor can I see that a reasonable person would consider ancient sects to satisfy this prohibition. But I am surprised to see someone defending apocalyptic views as something to be treated with respect if not reverence. I assumed thinking they are ridiculous and fringe whacko was the norm.

You do realize you left out enough of what I posted to distort the meaning of what you did post do you not? Was that deliberate? If not, how is it an accident?

However I am familiar with people trying to pick a fight by deliberately misconstruing what was posted as something that was not posted. The Nizkook discussion show you how taking a statement out of context is what I call forgery, others may call it deliberate deception.

So you should continue considering a cartoon of a man on a street corner with a sign "The end is nigh" as abusive of religion. I assume the rest of us will still smile at it. You just go on condemning such cartoons. It will make you feel better I am sure.

BTW: All the posts about Jesus are in fact abusive of religion when they fail to treat Jesus as the Son of God. Anyone criticizing ID is also abusing religion. Anyone who laughs at the Red Sea parting hates Jews. Get a life.

And anyone wanting to treat Judaism different from other religions is an antisemite by definition.

Now demonstrate your respect for Islam.

Is it me, or is it because we have so many more people who must ascribe all natural events that happen to some specific cause that there is is cult of climate change? Seems exactly like the thought process behind religion. Unable to say the words "random chance."

Ask your Army Core of Engineers whether they're just doing random make work projects.

Are they doing projects because thousands of square miles of pavement is replacing dirt?

Yes, I too will be interested in reading the paper showing how the climate change model predicted this storm. Any idea when it will be published?
