Nice rig, Do you plan on overclocking as you have the 4770K.

Well, I just put together a new PC for SAH.

Intel i7 4770K Quad Core
Asus SABERTOOTH Z87 motherboard
8GBs of PC2400 RAM
Two GTX 760s
...
I'm assuming since the CPU has 8 MBs of cache, all CPU work resides in cache (when crunching) and the speed of the RAM is almost insignificant.

She's processing at 100% now (8 CPU tasks, 2 GPU tasks).
...

S@H v7 processing involves multiple cases for baseline smoothing, chirping, and FFTs where one 8 MB array is transformed to another. Indulging in wishful thinking, if each CPU had its own separate 24+ MB cache there'd be hardly any use of main memory.

But modern CPUs have efficient prefetch mechanisms, etc., and there's enough computation involved in each step that an 8 MB cache shared among 8 tasks greatly reduces any main memory speed effects.

Yes it is addictive. It seems like all the new stuff comes out after you just get done building.:)
It will be a few years untill I build a new one, But Im allready drooling at the parts list.

I'm not exactly qualified to answer but I'll have a go 'till someone else comes along:)

Don't know if it really is the audio drivers causing your crashes but since I can't imagine someone using 2x760s as an HTPC, you probably don't need to install those NVIDIA (audio) HDMI drivers.

I can't say I remember the procedure that well but when doing a manual/clean-install (which you should always do) of NVIDIA drivers I think you get 4 boxes of stuff to choose from. The actual graphics drivers, which are the only thing you really need, are greyed-out and will install no matter what (so technically that leaves 3 boxes to choose from).

All the other stuff is optional. HDMI you probably don't need and same goes for PhysX (unless you play games that actually use it; in which case you would, of course, install it). I think there is a 3rd tick-box too but can't remember what it is, I just remember that I never check (as in I always un-tick) all of the optional boxes.

Hope this helps

If I leave everything as is, I should pay about $790 for electricity for the next year and accumulate about 6.5 million more credits.

Conclusion: A super cruncher does it a bit cheaper. About 4 times the credit per unit of time at about 70% the per unit cost of electricity.

I did notice a fairly close linear relationship in credit per unit of time and CPU clock speed. I also noticed a GTX 760 accumulates credit about 16 times faster than a CPU core. Makes me wonder if putting together a cheap CPU/Mobo combo with some high end GPUs would be a more cost efficient initial start up cost in accumulating credit.

Either way, makes me want to start retiring some of my older computers and putting together a couple more I7's with high end GPUs.

How long will it take for the new cruncher's higher efficiency to pay for its purchase?

For me none as I use a hand cranked generator.

I am using 6 kWh/day with 2 PCs running 7 BOINC projects 24/7, efficient light bulbs, one TV rarely used, a radio,a washing machine (about once/week), no AC, 2 printers also rarely used, a router/modem and, only in summer, a grass cutter.

I could use the same electric power -- just to heat up my house -- in electric radiators. Why not increase the entropy while hopefully finding something still unknown.

I just lit up the fireplace and me, myself, I and my wife, the better half and my love are going to sauna - just the two of us. Kids are at the grandma's.
--
[edit] The sauna's heating power is 6kW. Normally powered on for two hours per sauna night. [/edit]

I am using 6 kWh/day ...

Do you mean 250 whats; 6000/24? I use 1300 whats whenever I'm shrub'ing; that is one kWh every 46 minutes.

A kWh, one thousand whats for one hour, is a billing unit for an amount of energy used; 3,600,000 joules. I am billed $0.105403 for all kWh in the winter (Excludes BGS Reconciliation Charge); that is $3.29 US a day, $1200 if run all year 24/7, for SETI.

In the summer kWh are billed less for those under 600, $0.097556, and more for those over, $0.106814. In winter the heat from the computer is useful as it heats the house; as opposed to summer use where the heat is counter productive requiring more air conditioning so I don't/can't run all year all out.

I pay 17 eurocents for a kWh,taxes included, that amounts to about 30 euros/month. A correction, a watt (W) is different from a what.
