If you knew some guy with this type of thought processing, would you not consider the guy delusional?
How does a guy like this ever advance his thinking? Where would this guy ever find opportunity to expand his intellect?

I find that most of the guys I've met with such closed mental environments as shown in the cartoon, are also quite aggressively religious.
I suppose these kinds of guys, once cemented into their medieval mindsets, cannot accept concepts more modern than the dark ages.

What do you do with a guy like this?

Ok Robert, go ahead and have some fun. I'm going to demonstrate to you that I have a spine.

I'm sure I don't know what you're speaking about.
If you take some kind of offense to this, it's of your own making as no one is mentioned at all.
Just a hypothetical, generic, nonspecific entity who is referred to in here as nothing more than a vehicle to move the expression of the idea along.
I chose the masculine generic nonspecific commonly used expression known as a guy in my effort to be nonconfrontational.

I suggest that you, as a moderator, do the same.

Bait, the reason I deem it bait is that there is a large degree of truth there. Hopefully our Guy won't take the bait.
Now if the guy from Intelligent Design were speaking it would be interesting to hear his spin.

Ah, yes, people who swear the earth is flat, the moon is made of cheese and that Apollo was done on a sound stage and they personally were picked up into a UFO mother-ship and probed where the sun don't shine. They come in two kinds. A) Those that will say the book says it is this way so that is the way it is, but happily set off on an around the world cruise. B) Those that would never go on an around the world cruise because they don't want to fall off the edge.

Case A are pathological liars or trolls, unless they are simply making money off it.
Case B are likely psychologically damaged beyond repair, perhaps from their upbringing.

We need to study case B to insure that the upbringing that brought them about is never repeated.

more than delusional. Trusting a theologian to teach science is like a hippie doing brain surgery. they both know what is involved but are likely to not use tried and true methods to get the job done.

to paraphrase... winging it isn't science

Now.........I deem a little bit of acceptance here.

You said......there is a large degree of truth .

I think you should have used the term Joe. As in hes just an average Joe. Saying some guy could lead to a nasty PM or Odins son using his hammer.

Isn't this a standard psychological condition known as "being in denial"? i.e. I cannot accept what I am being told, despite all the evidence to support it, therefore I have decided that it's false and I will ignore it.

The sad part is that they're not only ignoring it, but they wish to state that empirical fact is a faith. Any attempts to sway them from this viewpoint seems to be met with "but you can't prove it!" without truly understanding the data first.
