Message 1452194 - Posted: 10 Dec 2013, 6:31:56 UTC - in response to Message 1452189.

Uli the fire department must have got there super quick. Usally when a car catches fire its fully envolved when they do arrive on scene.

It is a bit surprising how little outside damage was actually done. I have seen a couple of car fires, and in both cases, the car was completely burned inside and out. In both cases, the drivers and passengers were standing a hundred or so feet away.

Uli, I investigate vehicle fires for a living, and the few photos you show clearly look like arson. Very localized fire, started high in the engine compartment, did not spread quickly. All of which suggests there was no car fault but rather an externally applied heat source and first fuel. It also suggests an amateur arsonist, a pro would have started the fire UNDER the engine, so fuel and oil in the engine would feed the initial fire.

When a car fault causes the fire the fire usually starts at the fuel and oil in the engines or in lines and tanks. Those fires spread quickly into the plastics throughout the car, and within a very short time the whole vehicle is involved.

John, my case sounds a lot like yours. My car was destroyed by an out of control pick up truck on Sunday afternoon. I left town for a one week assignement on Monday morning in a rental, came back Friday night, had to return the rental car by Sunday evening, and head out of town again on Monday morning in my new car.

Similar. The truck that hit me was someplace between 12,000 and 18,000 pounds GVW

I purchased one from a private Party. Not my preferred way to go, but I got it at a good price.
The engine and tranny seem to be fine, just some minor issues to deal with.
The tech, that did the inspection was not interested in Spiffs I guess. I should have a Report tomorrow.

When a Tech finds something and they get you to fix it, they get a reward = spiff.

One time a Tech tried to tell me I needed a new engine. I drove that car for 10 more years without a problem.

Just look out for them asking that your flux capacitor needs replacing :)

Or replace the phase differential and install a new cloaking regulator

Hey, if Uli needs her phase differential or cloaking regulator replaced, I know just the guy that can do that.........
He works very odd hours, and cannot be relied upon.
