Yup, Lori has a new addition to her kitty clan.
Picked her up this morning.
She is a 12 week old purebred Black Smoke Maine Coon.
Her name is Bella, but it is spelled A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E.
(Yes, Lori is a true Twilight fan).

I visited for a short while earlier to put a locking doorknob on the sunroom where she will be staying until kitty introductions to Lori's boy kitties (Starbucks, Leo, and Ty) have been successful. Leo, you see, can open about any door in the house that isn't lockable. He's even figured out how to open the ones that swing toward him, as well as the easy ones that swing away.

I'll be there tonight helping to supervise introductions and give reassuring attentions to the new kitten, this being her first night away from mamma kitty. It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it....LOL.

I'll try to get a few piccys tonight or tomorrow for you.

Meow for now!

Well, I have to go over to Lori's place and take care of babycat Bella while she goes to do some work over at her rental house.
So I get to entertain the kitten.

Meow for now.

Ooops - I miss read the thread title.... It's not "The kitchen has landed", but "The KITTEN has landed". So comments about over priced work tops are out of place, but comments about overworked kitty trays are in order.
So, from a dog lover - I'm glad to hear that one little kitty has the home it deserves, I hope Bella an Lori are happy with each other for a good many years to come.

LOL....K-I-T-T-E-N.

Lori and I are both overjoyed with the babycat Bella. She is bringing some much deserved joy into Lori's life after her chemo battle. Which almost brings some tears to my eyes to see Lori's eyes light up that much again.

Little Bella kept me busy yesterday. Her first day home, she was a little subdued, as would be expected. But yesterday she started to turn into a tiny kitty fireball! Especially last night when Lori and I got home from dinner and opened the door to the sunroom. Can you say 'release the Kraken'? She was zooming all over enjoying the new space to explore, and of course, we had to try to keep tabs on her.

The two nearly 20 pound Maine Coon brothers, Leo and Ty, are rather intimidated by this 3-1/2 pound gurly gurl. They have both exchanged sniffs with her, and seem to be a bit on alert, but no aggressive moves, which would be the norm for their cool Maine Coon character.

Last night, Lori fed the boys in the kitchen, and Bella promptly walked up next to Ty, gave him a look....Ty took off, and Bella proceeded to start to munch on his bowl of food. Very funny stuff.

Starbucks, who was very laid back when Leo and Ty came home as kittens, is still making a fuss. He has sniffed her, but is still giving her hisses. Which Bella knows the meaning of, and she backs away. But Starbucks is such a crybaby all the time......he'll hiss at me sometimes when I am petting him and stop before he thinks he has gotten enough attention.

I got a few pics yesterday, my camera is still over there. I'll bring it back tonight and see if any are good enough to post you a few. Black kitties are hard to photograph well if you don't have enough light, and I was not going to use any flash to startle her.

I think Bella is going to be one most amazing, and beautiful, kitty. Although it is always hard to tell what their coloring is going to do as they grow up, lighten or darken, never know. But she is a true Black Smoke....one of the more rare Maine Coon colorings. Her dark black face sets off her eyes. But she has the smoke on her chest and under the rest of her coat.

And so far, she has that spunk the gives meaning to the phrase....'where there's smoke, there's fire'.

Meow for now, friends.

LOL....
Just talked to Lori, and this morning Bella has found 5th gear.
She is just a little kitten energy ball. Seems she is becoming most happy in her new digs. Zooming all about.
And she has been perfect in her use of her kitty powder room. No kitten accidents whatsoever.

And Leo is starting to take more interest. Which does not surprise me, as he is the smarter of the two brothers. Leo is the one who figured out the door handles.

And.....side story.
About them door handles. Lever type door handles.

I KNEW Leo was going to figure them out. Once he became large enough to reach them. One day I was back in Lori's office on the computer. Glass doors. Leo wanted to be by me, so he was stretching up and pawing on the glass. Accidentally hit the door handle. But the door swung out, towards him, so it did not open. But he was intrigued by the fact that he could do it, and he saw ME use the handle to get in, so he kept trying it. I warned Lori....LOL.

Now, the door into the sunroom, which is before the office, opens IN, away from him. It was not more than a few hours later that he tried that closed door, which then opened for him. Within the next few days, I think he had tried every other door in the house. He has since learned how to open the doors that swing towards him, by pawing and pulling. Now you know why we warn guests to lock the bathroom door when refreshing themselves.

At the time, Lori had some plants in the sunroom that were not 'kitty friendly', and she did not want him in there unsupervised. So, she put a chair in front of the door to block access to the doorknob. This worked for about 2 days.
One day, she was on the phone, and had to get into the office via the sunroom to get some paperwork. So, she reached down BEHIND the chair to get to the knob and get in. And when she came back out, there was Leo sitting on the floor with this most puzzled look on his face looking up at the chair. 'SHE got in....hmmmmm'. Lori could see the wheels going around and knew her gig was up.
Sure enough, not more than 5 minutes later, Leo jumped up on the chair, reached OVER the back of the chair to get at the knob, and he was in.
Yup, Maine Coons are some very smart cats.

Lori may need to look into a door knob type door handle for this one place, just to try and keep LEO away from those kitty unfriendly plants. As that is a smart cat there. It's that or get a locking lever door handle that matches as closely as possible to the rest of the door handles.

As a child living in the country we had
an out door cat that lived to over twenty
years old. That cat could open almost any door.
My Dad ended up putting little latch hooks
on all the doors she didn't want the Bee Bee
cat to open.

Two things.....
First, Lori has since removed the 'kitty unfriendly' plants from the house. The big boys are almost 2-1/2 years old now, that was almost a couple of years ago. Leo was a rather precocious young lad...LOL.

And
Two, you missed my post that said I had swapped a locking handle from one of her bathroom doors to the sunroom so that we could temporarily sequester babycat Bella and Leo could not get in. Now, if he ever figures out how to twist that little lock knob, we are in for trouble.

I'll see if I can get some up to share this weekend.

Babycat Bella is still having much fun exploring and charging about her new home.
And the 3 boys still have some ways to go on their learning curve about her...LOL.

Oh, just before I retire for the night.
I did promise some pics of the new kitten.

So, hold your breath now.
I present some pics of Lori's new kitten.

May I present...

The little kitten, Princess Bella....

She is a little kitten now......but she is a MAINE COON kitten. As you can see, not a black Maine Coon, but a true Black Smoke Maine Coon.
She is just a whisper of the kitty she shall become. She is just a few months old. And weighs just a few pounds. But is already giving her 19 pound older brothers some spirited spunk. Wait until she grows up to be her full weight of 16 pounds or so. This gurl is gonna be queen of the castle, I tell ya!

She is already Lori's most adoring kitty. Just loves her soooooooooooooo much.
Of course, she fell in love with Lori the first day we sat with her at the breeder's house weeks ago. Just cuddled up in her lap and fell to purring and then happily to sleep in her lap. Love at first cuddle, it was.

OH, and she shall not stay a kitty for too long there.\
She has already gained a couple of pounds in two weeks.
Eating Lori out of house and home, wants too much all the big boyz kibbles all the time.

Just voracious. She is growing at an exceptional rate.
You saw the last vampire thingy? She is scary fast. And growing just as scary fast.

Vampire Bella.\\\

That's exactly what Lori wished for.......
A female Maine Coon named Bella.

Be very careful what you wish for.

Bella is not going to be a kitten for long.
