This is one of the hundreds of types of longhorn beetles. It has been
on my patio door all day. Its body is one inch long.

This moth is on my dining room wall today. It's 3/4" from wingtip to
wingtip. It's not only pretty (imho), but it also matches my decor!

Now that spring is here I'm sure I'll be seeing more and more
interesting bugs!

I'm pretty loose with my topic control. Species 8472 looks like a bug to me. So do the Xindi Insectoids.

This is one of the prettiest moths I've come across since living in London. Stubborn too! No matter how many times I put it out, it kept coming back inside. :)

It is very pretty. It reminds me of the royal family because of the
black spots on white fur (like on their robes) and the fur around the
"collar."

:) These were amongst my many many favourite bugs...

Known as the Shongololo in many parts of Africa (or Duisendpoort - thousandfoot or, of course, the millipede)

These were too scary to get to know properly though...

African army ants. About 5cm long - they march in columns up to a hundred metres long and a metre wide (depending on the size of the colony) and devour every creature in their path. I spent a large part of my childhood trying to save unsuspecting beasties from them... but had to be quick because these guys are FAST!. Stripping naked and legging it for the nearest waterhole was about the only way to save yourself from some serious damage once you were engulfed... because if you made the mistake of squishing one - the others got REALLY annoyed for some reason! :) What with waterholes few and far between at times, my mother got in the habit of keeping a barrel of water about fifty metres away from the house in case any of my rescue missions failed. :)

Oh... they're also social creatures... like us :)
