I talked to the manager about installing screws in the outside wall to secure the wood panels to the wooden wall studs and She said She'd have to talk with the owner, since the moths are coming out of the walls in the kitchen now instead of in the bedroom area and that I can hear 2-3 nails a night go pop. My victory is complete... Still no moths... The nails have been backing out and making popping sounds since 2007. Maybe something should be ended, here and elsewhere... As this is not something I'd joke about... The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

My victory is complete... Still no moths... When nails back out you hit them back in. Even you could do that. I told you you had a infestation. You scorned me. How long have you battled the moths? Just in this thread its been since the 12 of September. I aslo told you you needed to make the outside secure first. That how the adults are getting in. The way your going, Your going to caulk that place so tight your going to suffacate. And another thing you only rent that place right? If I was your landlord and I saw all that stinking caulk all over the woodwork youd be looking for another place to live. Maybe its time you called an exterminator.
Old James |

My victory is complete... Still no moths... The manager would have done the caulking, but She was busy getting other empty places ready to rent, in any case I don't have the screws, a tall & strong enough ladder, nor the bits to do the work, except for the area with concrete, any ladder I step on will sink into the soil and gravel, so what could I do, I did ask the manager months ago when the place was under different ownership, the manager said NO, they said they would not do the work, since the old owner would only spend $100.00 a month on maintenance for the whole park(that's what I was told), the new owner is new at owning a park, so now you know why I caulked instead of doing what you suggested, I had no other choice that I could afford open to Me James, I would have loved to not have done the work that I did, I know I or someone will have to start near the top where the gap is really narrow and move down the panel, 1st one row, then another and another, until I or someone else is done with the panel, then repeat on the next panel and the next, until all the panels are done on the West side, the East side is not nearly as bad and the North and South have no problems with nails at all, the nails are about 4-6" apart and the nails are backing out almost to the top, mainly cause of the west wind and the gusts We get here(gusts have been as high as 75mph here), the mobile home wasn't like this in 2006... My victory is complete... Still no moths... The ladder sinking into the soil sounds like an excuse to me.Of course it will, Unless you live in quick sand it only goes so deep then stops. And its only inches. Are you afraid of hieghts? So what, So am I. But I dont let my house be open to the elements or bugs. Ive found that screws even the galvanized ones break off at the head over the years.( and if after a few years you want to unscrew one they mostly break off any way.) Use twist nails. They should be cheaper than screws to. Vic im not trying to twist your nickers. But landlords do have certaine responsilitys that they must also live up to. Maintenace is one.
Old James |

My victory is complete... Still no moths... No I'm not afraid of heights, I weigh 415lbs, that sinking is My experience and the soil here is sand. Twist nails, interesting, though I'm not good at nailing, maybe I need the right hammer? Since some have bent and I miss a fair amount, unless the nail is short, then I'm not bad, I'm not a carpenter. The last owner controlled the park by withholding money, all purchases and/or work had to be approved by the owner. Sounds crazy, but that's the way the guy ran the place, a Canadian friend of Mine here(long story) maintains His swamp cooler, as I have done for years, once the old owner ran an ad for the mobilehome next door(that is empty now and in need of repairs, it has a broken window, plus broken central a/c, there are 3 or 4 window a/c units in that place) that showed a picture of a mobilehome that never existed in this park, a guy in the Army and His wife answered that ad and eventually He was able to leave by getting transferred, that ad made a good competent manager that had been here since 2004 leave a few years ago to manage a park in Barstow CA near Walmart, He took close to half of the tenants in the park at the time with Him. My victory is complete... Still no moths... It seems like your past manager was a sleaze bag. Why you all living in the park ddint take his ass to court is the question. Didnt you have a lease that spelled out all the legal BS. I live in a mobile home park. I own a double wide trailer. I have a yearly lease that spells out what I have to do and what the owners have to do. I take care of my part and they take care of their part. Ive been here 23 years. Vic, Other people can only take advantage of you when you allow it. Maybe you should look into California laws about renting. You might have been taken advantaged of all these years with out knowing it.
Old James |

Chris S aka The Sage Said: I will be the first to admit here that I have been ribbing Vic quite a bit about this moth business, to the extent that he has got a bit shirty about it. I was trying to point out to him nicely, and in hopefully a humourous way, that he has been going a bit OTT about it all with his continuing detailed technical daily updates. I think he has got the message now. Get Rid of the Moths through Sealing and End Up with Condensation Problems within the walls. Need Dat AirFlow. Corn 'it' May we All have a METAMORPHOSIS. REASON. Well I can report that all My efforts to stop the clothes moth invasion have succeeded, plus right now I don't need the heater on, it's 54F outside and 74F inside as I type this. Oh sure I need to buy another pair of tubes, but then one section that I'd worked on didn't have enough so it needs recaulking due to shrinkage(that section is covered in masking tape for the moment), the other tube is so that I can completely weatherize the bathrooms some more, then I'll only have the kitchen and front room to do and then I'll be done, the small bedroom being closed off, doesn't need anything done there. All this will make the window a/c work better when I get that. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

A new insect (for me) in my backyard. It looks quite fierce with the pointy thing on its back. I looked it up. It's a Wheel Bug. Here's a page about it: http://www.insectidentification.org/insect-description.asp?identification=Wheel-Bug Their photo is much better than mine. Here's mine: And another: Used my iPhone camera. I figured it would probably leave before I could grab and set up my real camera. ~Sue~ |
