They are still being produced in Brazil, but only until December. Bye Bye, VW Bus: The End of an Era in Brazil As a squaddie in Germany they were great for getting away for the w/end to visit new places, or go to sporting events, or for the odd d***y w/end. And big enough to transport all your belongings back to the UK at the end of tour. |

The VW camper van, was in a ton of movies. Including the one about this: We got up there, we found all the garbage in there, and we decided it'd be David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

I found out I had a problem with anxiety in one, My neighbor liked to drive a bit fast in them, needless to say they don't handle like a Mustang. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Having driven both, including a VW van with a Porsche VW engine, I'm not that sure your analysis is on sound footings. We Europeans regard the handling of Mustangs as being similar to farm carts. |

I was talking about a 2006 Mustang GT, the van has the cornering ability of a unicycle. I prefer the Mustang or My Escort zx2 Sport Hot Coupe, the Escort is a 2 year only model. As this episode of Top Gear says, unless you buy the version with all the "bells and whistles" it's nowhere. The program also points out the rear axle is a steel beam with a wheel at each end, i.e. no independent rear suspension. Therefore it's handling characteristics like I said are like a farm cart. With roads around here if I owned a standard Mustang and drove like my grannie, 28mph max on the straight, I would still probably end up in a ditch even in the middle of summer. |

As this episode of Top Gear says, unless you buy the version with all the "bells and whistles" it's nowhere. From what I've read, Ford tried a live axle with the Mustang in testing, it was worse, but then the Mustang is and always has been a muscle car and is wider than the Van or the Escort. Oh and the Van has a higher center of gravity than the Mustang. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

All buses and vans had a 3/4 ton rated rear axle. You could haul tons of junk in them. ... |

Thankfully I don't need to do that, though if I wanted to I could install a trailer hitch/receiver from U-Haul, sure it wouldn't be much of a trailer, but then I'm not really in to that, not that I haven't thought of that before. Did you know fitting a towing hitch or a trailer brake controller to your car lowers its value. People will assume you have used it and that it will have caused extra wear and tear. The fact I used my camper van to transport, hifi system, 100's of books and antique bronzes plus all my clothes etc. back to the UK would not have even crossed the minds of the people who bought it. |

As this episode of Top Gear says, unless you buy the version with all the "bells and whistles" it's nowhere. No Vic the Mustang is fitted with a live beam rear axle, Ford and the Shelby conversion never tried independent rear suspension. Watch the Top Gear link. And the centre of gravity on a VW van is not high. The flat 4 or 6 engine is under the floor. Edit] P.S. I also know low cars, owned Dino 246 height 45 inches, same time as I owned a van. |

No, that didn't enter My mind, but then My 14 year old car isn't worth much in any case, last I looked it was around $1,200.00... If i were selling my car, anyone sensible would take one look under the bonnet, see how much it's been fiddled with, and walk away. Towbars are extremely useful though, who cares if it lowers the value a bit, it's worth more for the practicality. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

The Jeep I dumped about 3 years ago (and good riddance) had a trailer hitch, which I used maybe a dozen times. It was fine with my friend's boat, but the train club's portable layout towed like a lead sled. We probably should have had electric brakes in it. My current Trailblazer has a hitch, but I haven't had occasion to use it. My friend let the license expire on the boat, and the club sold the layout. In both cases, there was a basic loss of interest. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

I have a hitch that can be attached to the Land Rover but in all honesty I don't know exactly where it is. I suspect it is in the garage, but you never know. Never had occasion to use it. Now the winch that uses the same fitting bracket has been used many times. |

I have a tow bar as well so I can pull my 5'x8' box trailer for tip and wood runs. Cheers. |
