Message 1415608 - Posted: 14 Sep 2013, 15:18:56 UTC

I completed two tasks and received 156 credits. Then no new tasks would download. There was a message saying, "Nothing to Do". I tried everything I could think of in the Beta app menus, but nothing worked. Finally, I cleared the app data and cache, restarted the app, logged in again and two new tasks downloaded. Am I doing something wrong?

HTC Rezound, Infection ROM (Jelly Bean, 4.2.2, Rooted.

I just added Boinc and Seti to my HTC Desire S.
So far, so good. The Beta test is running (1,2 % now)

If I get some error message(s) should I report them here?

It should only run when connected to power and when the battery is at least 90% charged. It shouldn't run down your battery at all.

But of cause you can configure it run on battery, and set to a minimum value to drain it to (every 10%), so your mileage may vary.

No. SETI Beta is a separate project. The credits granted at Beta do not get combined with your SETI "Main" credits. In fact, the point of joining Beta is to help test an application - not to rack up credits.

I think you may have taken what I posted wrong. I'm not after numbers. If I find something will it count?
All I was asking

Ah, you said credit. Credit =/= finding a signal.

At any rate, I think Eric can correct me but the workunits at Beta are not production workunits. Nothing important to find in them. How would you tell a good signal in a Beta app that may be faulty?

I posted about this in Beta's Cafe Seti, but I'll ask here too so Eric will be more likely to see it.

When I signed up for Beta, I just went to the Beta web site and signed up. I used the same email address and user name as Seti (and Einstein and Orbit), but apparently I got a new cross-project ID. (I'm guessing that if I'd attached to Beta from one of my crunchers, it would have carried over my C-P-ID, but I didn't want to do that -- I want to keep Beta strictly on my phone, at least for now.) Is there any way to associate my Beta account with my other ones?

I'm not sure about that. The CPID is a rather wayward entity ;-)

Only if you ease up on your strict intention. You need (at least) one host that is connected to each of your projects. It doesn't need to process work, but it must connect regularly.

I did it. Had to abort one task. Seti main and Einstein now show up at the bottom of my Beta account page, and All Project Stats and Free-DC now show all three projects for me.

As I understand it the entire BOINC concept is a violation of Apple Terms of Service, something about reduced battery life from background application use.

A port to iOS seems possible now that iOS 7 appears to allow full multitasking, but App Store policies make an iOS version difficult (or illegal) to distribute. We would probably need to strip out any GPL code and distribute under a different license. And at a minimum, BOINC and SETI@home would need to be distributed as separate apps, and any updates to SETI@home apps would have to be distributed through the app store rather than through the SETI@home servers.

In other words, there's a lot of work to be done and I don't know if anything is being done on the BOINC side of things.
