We have this big block of ice up in the hills, the
melt water from it comes to us in a river. LSM and
I put our water bottles in the dish sink every day for
washing so that we have fresh clear water in the car
all the time.
Just think what elephants did to that ice 14,000
years ago.

Most charcoal filters are only 2-Stage Filters. There is a newer product of Pitcher Filter called Zero Water. It is a 5-Stage Filter and removes lead, microbes, and more, all you are left with is pure H2O.

Zero Water

Zero Water beats all bottled waters; and, of course standard tap water. I don't have the money, yet, to purchase a pitcher of Zero Water; however, when I do, I will be purchasing a 10-Cup Pitcher, and a multi-pack of filters. :-)

...and, no, I don't smoke....

very few filters remove distillates. and pure(distilled/deionized) does not taste very good, and is not particularly good for you.

hence my particular preference when circumstances permit:
spring water, from a known good spring source, delivered in recyclable bottles, 2.5-5 gallon. I would even toss them a dollar to deliver it in glass bottles again, but the times they have a-change-ed.

Can't drink alcohol and drive 12.5 miles to buy food or go to the Doc In Barstow CA or drive 44.5 miles to see the relatives in nearby Victorville CA(It's a coincidence, move along), so I don't bother, besides I don't want to drink the calories, I'd rather eat them instead.

You sure those figures are accurate enough for you Vic? You could hire one of these.

What I quoted is from the Escorts odometer from here to the market, that's also what Google Maps shows too, so I'm satisfied. You'd have to plug in the parks address in the field of course(37130 Calico Blvd, Yermo, CA).

The bottom line is that if you live in certain parts of the world like the UK, the ordinary tap water is fine. If you live anywhere else then you really have little choice but to buy bottled. You really would think that in the 21C in the civilised Western world, that potable tap water was a natural part of society, apparently not. Back to my previous point, why do women appear to need more hydration than men?

I've tried several different kinds of beer before becoming a Teetotaler. I don't believe I'm missing much. ;-)

Though I did share a drink of wine with a specific couple on these forums because I felt it was a special occasion. Haven't had a drink since.

I smoke cigars, drink booze and chase after women, but I don't drink bottled water. Not sure if I fit in with this crew or not.

How do you follow two posts like that ......

I should've said something about smoking and drinking first. I smoke, and drink tap water at home (filtered), water from the cooler at work and bottled tap water if I'm traveling for a length of time. Add some beer here and there and I'm sorted for my liquid refreshment.

I used to smoke pipe and cigars. Gave them up when it became too much of a hassle to smoke at work (radioactive equipment and nuclear cleanliness requirements). Only drink bottled water when it's all I can get, like in July working the fireworks sales in 110F heat. I reuse water bottles, filled from the tap. I also reuse 20oz soda bottles, mix my own Gatorade/Lemonade mixture. I also keep 1 gallon jugs of cold water, Gatorade, and Raspberry Iced Tea in my refrigerator.

On the boats, we distilled potable and reactor plantr water from seawater. Had absolutely no taste whatsoever. Drank a lot of coffee and Bug Juice (Kool-Aid).

I banned Kool Aid a long time ago. If I buy bottled water it is the mineral type.
The last place I worked in Manteca, we were not allowed to use the tab water. It was contaminated by the leaking underground storage tanks by an Arco station.
Not sure if they were ever made accountable to clean up the mess.

Yes I am a smoker too, but I made an effort to cut it down to 1/2 in the last few month.

Hope this isn't OT but the thread title makes me wonder:

Why do panhandlers always drink bottled water?

I get that it is hot work standing by the side of the road with a "homeless" sign, but why designer water bottles?

...Back to my previous point, why do women appear to need more hydration than men?

Ok Chris, I'll weigh in on this one. I think several factors are at play here.

Young women with water bottles are probably drinking water because they do not want the extra calories of soda or sweet tea. They may also be hoping to "fill up" on water in the hopes that they will be able to pass up a pastry or candy bar later on in the day. For more... er... uh... "mature" women such as myself, caloric intake is generally an even bigger concern, along with the fact that water bottlers have convinced us that being ridiculously super-hydrated makes our skin look fuller and younger. (It probably does not, but none of us really wants to believe that more youthful looking skin is irreparably beyond our grasp.)

In our western culture, physical attractiveness is more highly valued in women than in men. I can see why women, myself included, are more likely as a group to fall for the fables of hydration. Frankly, at my age, I really WANT to believe I can do something as simple as sip water to improve my health and bolster my looks. So pass the Kool-aid, but hold the nasty flavor packet!!!
