So do they want more or less guns? The article doesn't make clear what they're actually trying to change.

It's obvious that some states want to wrestle all powers from the Federal government and stockpile weapons for the next civil war.

It isn't an opinion piece, it is a news report. Something you would never see on Faux, so that is why you are asking what side they are on.

I wasn't asking whose side they were on, i was asking what this piece of legislation would do.

Ya, fox news would never report something like this...

Simonator, the answer to your question is in the links. Missouri is just making a statement about the balance of power.

So as i understand it, Missouri wants to make America's already lax gun control even less stringent.

The gun lobby seem to keep saying that they need guns for hunting, fair enough.
So why would you need something like an M16 assault rifle with high capacity magazine and armour-piercing bullets, as i saw being paraded around on a documentary earlier this year. Just how tough are the deer in 'Murica?

Gun laws are not lax in the states. (Compared to the UK, yes, they are lax....)

As I've stated in another thread, I cannot go out and buy a military version of an F-15, or an M1 Abrams tank, or claymore minds, or mortars, or hand grenades, and you need an FFL3 (Federal Firearms License, type 3) to own a fully automatic weapon, and semi automatic weapons (and below) are limited to .50 caliber (except with black powder rifles).

(snip)

Try to put the cat back in the bag and it'll get really messy.

Limited to .50 cal? That's alright then, not much damage one can do with that.

That's a very defeatist attitude. There are already guns here, so we can't do anything about it...
The culture might be one of gun ownership, then change the culture. It would be hard, but it would be worth it.
I don't know how one would go about doing it, i'm a chemist not a sociologist, but it has to be possible.

I'll have to ask my friend Craig what level license he needs for his Sherman tank.

So, if they are successful, could a state say outlaw federal rules on say conscription?

Actually I hope they pass this and the ACLU goes ape$*1# all over them, because at last we will have an answer to the questions posed by the 9th and 10th.

Why does someone need an rifle designed to fire semi-automatic with high capacity magazines?

They are not designed for deer. They are designed for defense.

Defense against? intruders? a band of roaming zombies? a herd of malicious cows? a band of hoodie wearing thug gangester wannabees? you or your family member when you accidentally lock and load a round, forget that you've done that and carelessly attempt to clean the weapon? the last scenario is the most likely.
However, even more likely is that while you are out, you'll lose that darn thing to the thief that you were protecting yourself from.
