In the Linux world, the first fix and then the follow-on fix were available within hours. For some proprietary vendors, the fixes are yet to roll out... Scratch Apple from that list. And patch files below if you need them OS X bash Update 1.0 may be obtained from the following webpages: And for whatever systems left abandoned, they will only get noticed when they fail or cause a nuisance that is noticed... Looks like steadily more people yet will be using some flavour of Linux in 2015: All Of Samsung's 2015 Smart TVs To Be Powered By Tizen ... We've been waiting for Samsung to ship more Tizen devices and it looks like 2015 will finally be the year! In 2015 is when they finally launched their first Tizen smartphone and for fostering these efforts they've been hiring more Linux / open-source engineers. Other Tizen devices include the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatches and Samsung NX1 photo camera. We've been known about Samsung's Tizen TV plans since they showed off prototypes last year at the Tizen Developer Conference. Tizen 2.3 is the latest official release of the Linux-based platform while Tizen 3.0 is under active development... Android KitKat x86 Updated With Linux 3.18, Better Suspend/Resume ... Android-x86 4.4-r2 is the second stable update to KitKat for Intel/AMD processors. This update has various x86-specific improvements targeted for tablets and netbooks. First up, Android-x86 4.4-r2 has been upgraded to the Linux 3.18 kernel for having the latest stable kernel experience and more drivers being enabled by default. This switch to Linux 3.18 should especially help out Intel Bay Trail users wishing to run Android on their hardware... HP To Launch Linux++ Operating System Next Year [2015] Hewlett Packard is going to introduce their "revolutionary" new operating system next summer that's dubbed Linux++... Indeed Linux is hitting the world: I'm thinking of buying Linux' after my Windows computers have all died. I still have a full set of MSDOS 6.22 disks, plus a full set of WFWG 3.11 disks. I am very tempted to install all that on a spare machine and hook up to Seti, for the sole 100% purpose of pissing Microsoft off. If I can find the time to do it I'll involve the popular press. BOINC & SETI are Win32 applications. Even if you were to install Win32s in Windows 3.1x, you would not be able to run BOINC and/or SETI on such a machine. At the least, you would need Windows 95 and IE 5 (because certain libraries that are used only come with Internet Explorer - blame the coders for that). ID: 1627487 · |

... The link to the site you quoted is an activist site, whose opinion you can take with a pinch of salt. Don't be too easily influenced by what you read. An "activists" site?? Really?!... How would you list this link then to The Vultures comments? Windows 7 MARKED for DEATH by Microsoft as of NOW Note that behind all the irreverent comments and humour, they are usually very sharp for the technical details... If you feel that Linux is for you then fine, go ahead, but you will be in the minority, and find that there is limited software for it. There's more people than you imagine use Linux systems of various types and all so unobtrusively that they are not noticed... There's also a growing number using one of the many Linux distributions. The only problem there is being spoilt for choice! Good mainstream ones to try or take a look at are such as: Kubuntu Ubuntu Mageia4 Mint (and a Mint review) ... And others. Take a look on YouTube for the sort of thing to expect. The greatest hurdle is to clear some disk space (back up all your data first) to install the software. You can run what are called "LiveCD"s to run Linux entirely from the CD/DVD only and not touch your hard disk at all. However, CDs/DVDs are hideously slow compared to a HDD and so you see things happen after quite a pause (although amazing it can work as well as it does from such media!). Ask questions and good luck! And there is more software available than you can ever hope to need to use. Don't be tempted to try loading up 'everything'! (OK, did that once and you get so many entries in the menus that you can then never find anything!) I'm happy to stay with the older versions of Windows, and I will NOT be coerced into buying the latest Windows every 2 years, just to keep Microsoft in business. Odd approach... You could run a Linux distro and run Boinc + S@H on WINE. Indeed, all the old XP users can run their old XP software on WINE... Quite a giggle! (WINE is on all the main Linux distros. You may need to install some Windows software into WINE and have the appropriate Windows licenses for your software to be EULA compliant... WINE then 'fools' the Windows software that it is running on Windows.) Freedom has some costs but nothing like the costs of suffering proprietary entrapment. Have fun! IT is what we make it! Very few people have the almost religious caring or detachment to even be able to be benevolent when wielding control over others... All a part of how some people play games?... As an aside to that, hence there should be great concern for what gets sucked up into the various 'clouds'. Are people happy (or even aware) that all their data/work/life held in whatever cloud might be lost or given away for free or used to make money for others?... There's now quite a few FLOSS projects that allow you to run your own private cloud for yourself...
