Hey Everyone, Another strange occurence for today. One of my trusty laptops has thrown a succession of 5 errors in a row today, all ERR_TOO_MANY_EXITS. Shown Here. This is the first error I think this machine has produced in almost a year. Did it over heat? Anything to worry about, unless it continues? |

Unfortunately I can't help with your problem but I can help with your link :) http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=6840159&offset=0&show_names=0&state=6&appid= |

Unfortunately I can't help with your problem but I can help with your link :) Oh! Thanks! I didn't realize that my link would not work. I guess it works for just me? I edited my original post, thanks again! |

I guess it works for just me? That's right:) I learned this one the hard way too. Links with "userid" in the address don't work for the rest of us. It has to be a "hostid" address. |

I wonder why those CPU tasks were run as "USE_SSSE3 x86" instead of "USE_AVX x86" and if this may have something to do with your problem. I shouldn't think so though. Cheers. |

Some of them are CPU tasks, and I told lunatics to use SSSE3. On the surface, this makes sense to me. Am I wrong on that? |

Re-run the installer as it should have picked the best application by default to suit your CPU, which should've been the AVX application, as that is what your CPU is best at. Cheers. |

As to your 1 similar GPU result it seems to have occurred at the same time as the CPU tasks. So did you have some other program running at that same time that the 4 CPU & 1 GPU tasks all errored? Cheers. |

I wonder why those CPU tasks were run as "USE_SSSE3 x86" instead of "USE_AVX x86" and if this may have something to do with your problem. On his rig he is running Win7 without SP1, so he can't use AVX. |

I wonder why those CPU tasks were run as "USE_SSSE3 x86" instead of "USE_AVX x86" and if this may have something to do with your problem. Well that answers 1 question, but raises another, why isn't SP1 installed? Cheers. |

As to your 1 similar GPU result it seems to have occurred at the same time as the CPU tasks. This is a laptop that I also use regularly, so I could have had any number of programs running at the same time. As for why I don't have SP1 installed for win7... well... that is a good question! I should look into that... Now I am getting even more errors on a different computer. Juan warned me about getting EXIT_TIME_LIMIT_EXCEEDED errors on a computer that has two graphics cards. one of two errors. I am having some very terrible luck in the last 36 hours. My world is crumbling around me!!! |

...Now I am getting even more errors on a different computer. Juan warned me about getting EXIT_TIME_LIMIT_EXCEEDED errors on a computer that has two graphics cards. one of two errors. Your two cards are on two different platforms, using two different Apps, with two different APRs. That is not what is causing those errors. The ATI Multibeam Apps have a history of producing TIME_LIMIT_EXCEEDED errors, the cause is still a mystery. Another mystery is why it gives the error on tasks taking 15000 secs but passes tasks taking 18000 & 22000 secs. Again, this is not new, I've seen pages of Failures with a few Successes mixed in taking the same amount of time as the Failures. You shouldn't receive that error unless the task is over 10 times as long as the APR suggests. In your case, that would be around 36000 seconds, not 15000. There is a reason I only use that App when I can't find an AstroPulse. Your tasks do seem to be longer than expected, the 7770 should finish an AP in about an Hour, not close to 3 hours. Are you running with One Free CPU Core? It's the only idea that comes to mind. Set the Multiprocessor setting to use 90% of the Processors, if you haven't already. |

Do you have a CPU core free ? With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

When it rains it pours. Then it flows. Then it starts piling deeper and deeper. We used to call them brown days. They do come to an end. Eventually. ;) |

The 7770 can do an MB (while running two) in an hour. You believe it should be able to run an AP in an hour? I would not have expected an AP to run that quickly. I have the setting set to use 75% of my processors, so I think that that aspect should be taken care of. I have not gotten any more errors since, so perhaps it was just a small hiccup. |

Actually, the 7770 should finish an unblanked AP in under an hour. My 7750 finishes one in just over an hour. My older 6770 takes about 1.25 hours. Since there are APs about, I'd change the preferences to ask for AP only and grab a few. I use a setting of -unroll 10 -ffa_block 8192 -ffa_block_fetch 4096 -sbs 256 to bring the GPU load up to around 90%. It's in the AP readme. My cards usually finish a 90+% blanked AP faster than the one AP you completed. It would be interesting to see a few more APs run on the 7770. |

I have a text file in my seti directory named ap_cmdline_win_x86_SSE2_OpenCL_ATI.txt Would this be the place to put your suggestion of "-unroll 10 -ffa_block 8192 -ffa_block_fetch 4096 -sbs 256" ? I recall recently adding -sbs 256 for an MB text file in the same directory, from someone's suggestion. (mb_cmdline_win_x86_SSE_OpenCL_ATi_HD5 was the name of the file). This sounds very similar, but just for AP instead of MB? |

The 7770 can do an MB (while running two) in an hour. You believe it should be able to run an AP in an hour? I would not have expected an AP to run that quickly. ATIs are very effective for AP Using AMD Radeon HD 6570 (OCed to 800/1050 which makes it ~ HD 6670) running 2x AP tasks (<count>0.5</count>) finishes ~0% blanked task in 4 h (so 2 AP tasks in 4 h = 2 h/task effective time) http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=4832843&offset=0&show_names=0&state=4&appid=12 My AMD Radeon HD 6570: Max compute units: 6 Max work group size: 256 Max clock frequency: 800Mhz http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=3105459210 Your AMD Radeon HD 7770 have to be (maybe) >2 times faster: Max compute units: 10 Max work group size: 256 Max clock frequency: 1070Mhz http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=3119455131 Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

I have a text file in my seti directory named ap_cmdline_win_x86_SSE2_OpenCL_ATI.txt Yes, that's the file. Did you already see the ReadMe_AstroPulse_OpenCL_ATI.txt in ...\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\docs\ for 'Available command line switches'? I have a text file in my seti directory named ap_cmdline_win_x86_SSE2_OpenCL_ATI.txt I have, but thanks for pointing it out again just in case. I'll have to read over it again, the first time it left my head spinning :) I'll add that info the the file now, thanks for confirming! |
