Has anyone heard what was the cause to the outage that lasted for several hours on Wednesday?

Haven't heard anything, but from what I saw on the Server Status Page as we came back up, I'd suspect one of the BOINC Databases crashed.

I agree about the database crash, but it doesn't explain why the site itself was down @ approx. 15:30 eastern.

[edit] Berkeley's IST site has not listed anything concerning the outage either. [/edit]

With one or both BOINC databases crashed, I think in the past they have taken both off-line to recover. That also requires them to take down the data-driven Webpages and the Scheduler.

Software Upgrades for UC System Backup servers should not have affected frontline server functions other than the ability to do a backup. The S@H servers are NOT UC System servers, so should not have been affected at all.
