I'm still battling some bugs, there were only 3 of the small black ones today and I just killed a clothes moth that was in the master bedroom on the ceiling, no moth eggs have been found on any of the clothes that I removed from the closet and I'll need to clean some others tomorrow that I want to eventually get rid of since they don't fit Me anymore(2XL to 4XL shirts, sweater and 2 jackets), some I've had for about 40 years(boy scout stuff, I'll keep the one shirt though, cause of the badges that are on it). the closet is half empty and as soon as I can get two chest of drawers(I actually have 3, 1 is from My Mom and the other 2 are from My Uncle and the 2 are damaged due to an earthquake back in 1988 or 1987 I think, their all antiques) where I want the chests to go and then the boxes can go into the other end of the house in the small bedroom that I use for storage, it's cheaper than renting some storage. The master bedroom is organized kaos right now. Just moving furniture in the front room is going to be a challenge as the last time I did that I was lighter and a few years younger too and the budget is a bit tight to hire a guy to help, no the neighbors can't help, their usually too busy, I almost couldn't move a box of aquarium gravel today in the small bedroom to the wall, but then It weighs over 110lbs... One of these days it's going to kill Me. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

I'm not sure the eggs of clothes moths are easily visible to the naked eye. They are, I've seen pics of the eggs and the larvae with a moth and none of the moths were mating and I saw that happen once over 1 year ago, I stopped that cold. The females lay 40 to 50 eggs and then She dies, I've not seen any dead moths so far, plus I've moved boxes and some furniture, nothing and I've killed all the moths I've seen. Oh and all the wool clothing I have is in a closed up box at the opposite end of the house and that isn't very much, as most of My clothing is cotton and synthetics, I've read they won't eat that, moths do like the conditions the swamp cooler makes, but the cool air doesn't get to the master bedroom usually and the closet for sure as it's always hot in there as there are no vents and no electrical outlets, though there is a light on a pull chain switch overhead. That's another reason I need a 12000btu casement/sliding window a/c unit(I won't be able to get one until Oct 2016), to lower the humidity, if you do that with a swamp cooler the air get hotter in the house, but at almost $471 used($488 new almost) with a bracket off of amazon, most window a/c units are too wide for My windows as they're for double hung windows. Yeah I took all My clothes out of the closet last night, I think I need more GE white silicon caulk, two corners are big enough to let moths in and since I sealed the bathroom window, I haven't seen any in the bathroom at all, at least the other two corners don't face an exterior wall, there goes another $6.74, but the house will be a bit more insulated. Right now I'm washing a lot of the clothes I took out of the closet last night, it'll make them smell better at least and I found half the clothes that I had do not fit anymore, too small, since their not worth anything I can give them away or whatever, but for the time being a trash bag can house them. Ok I moved the last piece of furniture out of the closet and except for some clothes that will go in some drawers when I'm done I've moved all of the old clothes to the front room and includes two freshly washed jackets that I can't wear, drat. I also moved the boxes I'd gotten out of the closet into the front room temporarily before moving them into the small bedroom, Next I have to move the piece of furniture from the small bedroom to the master bedroom some 50' away, so that I can make room for the boxes and make the small bedroom a bit more organized, I should buy two more resin storage shelves from the Home Depot though, but I can't do that until about 2017 as there is only so much money to go around and I can get by, one has to have priorities and I've got Mine. Then I need to rearrange the front room, when I'm not sure, though that will make installing an a/c unit in a window easier than it would be now and the room will feel less crowded I think. Ok I got the Chest minus the drawers in the master bedroom, except for some clothes, it can't handle much more as it needs regluing along one side, as one upper interior brace fell off while I was moving the Chest, but then It was on the 2nd floor of a condo that is built in a former stream bed, so the ground shook a bit harder and the condo shook the upper floor enough to damage the Chest(Whittier Narrows Earthquake back in the 80's), the drawers I need to get some boxes out to put the contents in, but I'll get to that soon. The repairs I might see about that in late 2017, maybe, it's that or I buy the proper clamps and use some Elmers carpenters wood glue to fix the chest with. I found out the shelving is still sold by the Home Depot, 2 of them will cost Me $107.94 and yep one has to assemble them, not too hard really and it makes transporting the kit home that much easier too. Ok I just got thru inspecting the master bedroom closet, note the door is always closed, unless I need something, I found another moth, since there is no way inside from the bathroom or the adjoining bedroom, it's those two corners that are at the exterior wall, oh and the moth got flushed down the drain, so I'm buying two tubes of GE white silicon caulk on the 30th, so two more days and no more moths, I'll be glad when this is over, as a side benefit My gas bill will be lower in the winter, by how much I don't know, the closet has always been hot in the summer and cold in the winter... It seems the bugs here are trying to tell Me that My place leaks like a sieve, I think they're right, right now I can't do anything except what I'm doing The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Have you tried moth balls? No. I also had moths entering thru the bathroom window where the two parts of the window meets, I used caulk there cause I don't yet have about $330.00 to replace that sliding window, I noticed the bathroom was cooler after the caulking, the closet walls drywall on one side has a slight gap, the other side is a yawning 1/4"-1/2" wide, so wide I can see an exposed wall stud, the mobile home manufacturer(Fleetwood Enterprises) went bankrupt in 2009. So I'll just seal the gap like I did in the bathrooms, where bugs/moths get in, cool air and heat can escape. Moth balls won't help, as they would still come in thru the gap, mobile homes usually don't use drywall tape and such, Fleetwood put wood strips over the joints, this place doesn't have wood strips everywhere, wood strips are what's called cutting corners on labor costs. Note this place had been partly worked on to make the place sellable, so some strips are missing, but that gap is just bad work on someones part, but they did a sloppy job, as the stud is just painted over. Big Gap between drywall joints, both pics are from the same closet, the wall to the right in this picture is the outer wall of the mobile home... Nearly no gap, the wall to the left in this picture is the outer wall of the mobile home... The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Vic, were you not the last owner of this mobile? It was a partly refurbished rental, I bought the place in Las Vegas NV in 2006, I only started having bug problems in 2011, so that does not have anything to do with My current problems, the moths started by coming in a window with a bad window screen, the bugs got in thru that window even when the window was latched shut, for a few years from 2011 onwards I just taped up the window to keep the bugs out, now that I have sealed off their main entrance, they found a smaller way in, so I have to seal that up, the outside of the mobile home is sheathed in a wood type product that is like wafer board and held in place by nails, some of which have backed out over time by less than 1/8". Flathead screws(similar to drywall screws) would fix that, but so far I don't know anyone who wants or even could do that, as I think it requires drilling holes so that the screw head will be flush with the surface of the wall panels. And no I couldn't do the work, as I only have one corded drill and no ladder that can support Me without sinking into the ground or long enough extension cord, the screws would need two drills, one to drill countersink holes a bit smaller than the screw and one drill to screw them in with. I just did an inspection of the closet that is still empty of clothes and I found a clothes moth, killed it and flushed it down the toilet. That 2 tubes of caulk can't get here soon enough, but once done will give Me peace of mind and most importantly no more moths, side benefit, a few less leaks in the outer walls. I can remember being a guest at a wedding when all the teenagers sat in a row on the floor and weaved about to some pop song on the disco. I did say "the" kids" not "us" kids ;-) Say oops upside your head say oops upside your head, Say oops upside your head say oops upside your head! Vic old Buddy as LSM and I live in a small country town I sympathize with your bug problem but if you think about it, it's their world more than it is ours. Oh, lobsters are bugs of a sort and they are coming live to-day from good old Nova Scotia via my sweet little sister. |

Vic old Buddy as LSM and I live in a small You wouldn't invite insects to live in your house and eat your clothes and food would you? Insects aren't in the same family as lobsters, lobsters are related to spiders. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Lobsters, spiders and insects are all members of the phyllum arthropoda (creatures with joined legs). Spiders (arachnida) have 8 legs, insects (hexapoda) 6 and lobsters (crustacea) 10. All different sub-phylla, hence more or less equally unrelated. A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read. (Mark Twain) |
