Hello friends and welcome to the 18th installment of our Critter Cafe. For those who are new to us, this is a place where critter people, and anyone else who wishes to visit, converge to talk about whatever they would like to talk about. There is no such thing as "off topic" in the Critter Cafe. Congratulations are in order. I'm a great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandmother again!!! Aren't my new grandchildren beautiful??? The raccoon our house sitter saw during our travels finally decided to show herself to us. Last night she came by with two of her kits and tonight she brought all five. We only got three of them in this picture. The other two were up on the hill out of camera range. I really cannot figure out who this mama raccoon is. She is "window trained" and quite familiar with our backyard, but she is rather skittish. She is not tolerating my presence outside right now, but this should change with a little behavior modification training. The only distinguishing physical characteristic she has is light, very fine and thin fur on her forearms. She looks like she has been using a depilatory product, so I have decided that her name must be Pilar. Of course, now we need some baby names, and that is where you all come in. After the Maggie-Magoo sex change surprise last season, I have decided to run the baby naming contest a little differently this year. Over the next 3 days, people should post potential baby names in this thread. Saturday morning I will pick the five names that most amuse me. Three days should give everyone a little time to come up with good names. Hint - a good raccoon name is a unisex name, since we find out much later who is a boy raccoon and who is a girl raccoon. Let the baby naming begin!!! |

Two obvious ones to start the ball rolling Francis - shortened to "Frank" Leslie - shortened to "Les" Since I was at school with a boy "Frank" who was apparently spelt the wrong way I've never been able to sort the correct that name out. And as all the "Leslie's" I know use "Les" And a third I just thought of Mich - short for either Michel or Michael Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

And I always thought it was the other way round - such is the way one can confuse me Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Hmmmm I thought Francis was for boys and Frances was for girls. I actualy knew a couple that were named Franky and Johnny. The girl was named Johnny that was her real name. I lost track of them over the years so I dont know if she has shot him yet. [/quote] Old James |

Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice. There are examples of all of them being used opposite the normal gender assignment. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |
