Have any of the usual suspects tried compiling with Cuda 5.5 yet? A colleague just installed it on our C2070 workstation and reports it's far nicer and noticeably faster than 5.0. I'm a bit too snowed-under to try it on my machines just now. |

Yeah, so far looks like some of my reports of diminishing library performance may have been acted on. Gimme a coupla days ;D "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. OTOH, maybe I should put it on our Linux server over the weekend, while the grad-students are enjoying summer around Lake Geneva rather than crunching numbers. |

Easier than the Windows version most probably ;) "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. This sounds nice, since all my graphics cards are already running CUDA 5.5 with the latest drivers. Where will this executable be available - at the beta site or from lunatics? Aloha, Uli |

LoL, it feels weird running test pieces with no cudart dll present (5.5 statically links it in), after so long used to it being there. My 780 would Like to have a Linux version :D Depending on how I wake up tomorrow, I might have a go at it. I could stand to be at work to listen to the Third Test and do a naughty live look at the announcement of the new Doctor Who (on the claim that work must have a BBC licence...). On the other hand, the OS I have to work with is so old that a pure executable probably won't transfer to anything more modern -- it really is into the realm of compile-it-yourself. |

I certainly had a nice weekend and (thus) could not find time to try to compile my own version. -- there are times I wish I'd have time for my computer too. on 680, Looks to be underperforming (compared to 5.0), not sure why yet. More digging to do. "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. And unlike most advice, it's backed up by proofs." -- Algorithms to live by: The computer science of human decisions. |

I'd be more interested to see if they managed to sort out the pre-fermi performance reduction (i.e. comparison to Cuda 2.3/3.2). A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read. More digging to do. *seems* unlikely at this point, though we'll check backstage of course with the usual tests, after I've gone over all the release notes for anything applicable and triple check compiler options etc. If its continued cuFFT library diminishing performance (as suspected), then we'll confirm that with some controlled unit tests, update the report to nVidia with solid numbers on different GPUs/Cuda-revisions, and look at alternatives, including replacing CUFFT. Well, I got Cuda 5.5 installed on my old SLC 5.9 machine and recompiled s@h OK. The executable is a bit smaller but so far it's picked up the two running jobs OK. Wow! Thanks for seti configure options. Did you have to make any modifications to code? Which Boinc version and GCC, glibc etc. did you use compiling Boinc. (how to ./configure). I seem to get errors in ld - some string function with wrong glibc version. Hope I'll get to my Linux box on Wednesday or Thursday.
