Anyone have any info or knowledge about the efficacy of replacing a GTX 680 with a GTX 780 for crunching purposes? Any info about any versions of these cards would be helpful to me. What % increase (if any) in WU processing might I expect? The 680 is 2GB DDR5, the 780 is 3GB. |

Wiki's Nvidia page rates the 680 at 3090 Gflop and the 780 at 3977, so all things being equal, about 29% more throughput. That squares with the 50% increase in core count and 86% reduction in clock rate (1.5 x 0.86 = 1.29). |

Is not simple like that the 780 & Titan have a compleate new processor, so the increase in the performance will be greater. But be aware, for now, there are no optimized apps for this new processor on SETI, and all points that will take some time, there are also some reports in other Boinc projects that shows problems to development a special target app to run on this new monsters... Nvidia knows that and promise a driver update to fix the problem but nobody could say when there will be avaiable, could be days/weeks or months. |
