I have recently been having nothing but computation errors on Seti at Home and Seti Beta@home as well. For a while I was having problems with other projects that used GPU too which started earlier in July right after the last batch of microsoft updates in which AMD had an update so I figured that it must have had something to do with Catalyst and the latest upgrade to it as I know that other BOINC programs have had issues with the newest version of Catalyst so I backed off the newest version of Catalyst and reinstalled the earlier version. All my other GPU using BOINC programs are working fine now except for SETI@home which is failing within a few seconds after starting each work unit. These are the last 4 jobs that I had today: 7/30/2013 8:30:08 AM | SETI@home | Starting task 16ja09ai.19494.383225.12.12.58_1 using setiathome_v7 version 703 (opencl_ati5_sah) in slot 4 7/30/2013 8:30:16 AM | SETI@home | Computation for task 16ja09ai.19494.383225.12.12.58_1 finished 7/30/2013 8:30:16 AM | SETI@home | Starting task 15au08aa.14953.8661.12.12.80_1 using setiathome_v7 version 703 (opencl_ati5_sah) in slot 4 7/30/2013 8:30:19 AM | SETI@home | Started upload of 16ja09ai.19494.383225.12.12.58_1_0 7/30/2013 8:30:21 AM | SETI@home | Finished upload of 16ja09ai.19494.383225.12.12.58_1_0 7/30/2013 8:30:23 AM | SETI@home | Computation for task 15au08aa.14953.8661.12.12.80_1 finished 7/30/2013 8:30:23 AM | SETI@home | Starting task 16ja09ai.19494.383225.12.12.101_1 using setiathome_v7 version 703 (opencl_ati5_sah) in slot 4 7/30/2013 8:30:25 AM | SETI@home | Started upload of 15au08aa.14953.8661.12.12.80_1_0 7/30/2013 8:30:27 AM | SETI@home | Finished upload of 15au08aa.14953.8661.12.12.80_1_0 7/30/2013 8:30:28 AM | SETI@home | Computation for task 16ja09ai.19494.383225.12.12.101_1 finished 7/30/2013 8:30:28 AM | SETI@home | Starting task 16no08ah.18544.7434.6.12.155_1 using setiathome_v7 version 703 (opencl_ati5_sah) in slot 4 7/30/2013 8:30:31 AM | SETI@home | Started upload of 16ja09ai.19494.383225.12.12.101_1_0 7/30/2013 8:30:33 AM | SETI@home | Finished upload of 16ja09ai.19494.383225.12.12.101_1_0 7/30/2013 8:30:33 AM | SETI@home | Computation for task 16no08ah.18544.7434.6.12.155_1 finished 7/30/2013 8:30:36 AM | SETI@home | Started upload of 16no08ah.18544.7434.6.12.155_1_0 7/30/2013 8:30:38 AM | SETI@home | Finished upload of 16no08ah.18544.7434.6.12.155_1_0 My computer's id in the project is 6707917 and following is my computer's basic info: 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | Starting BOINC client version 7.0.64 for windows_x86_64 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | Libraries: libcurl/7.25.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1 zlib/1.2.6 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | Running under account barb 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | Processor: 4 AuthenticAMD AMD A8-3520M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics [Family 18 Model 1 Stepping 0] 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 htt pni cx16 popcnt syscall nx lm svm sse4a osvw ibs skinit wdt page1gb rdtscp 3dnowext 3dnow 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | OS: Microsoft Windows 7: Home Premium x64 Edition, Service Pack 1, (06.01.7601.00) 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | Memory: 5.48 GB physical, 10.96 GB virtual 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | Disk: 673.79 GB total, 539.10 GB free 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | Local time is UTC -4 hours 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | VirtualBox version: 4.2.8 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | CAL: ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon HD 6300/6400/6500/6600 series (Sumo) (CAL version 1.4.1741, 512MB, 479MB available, 710 GFLOPS peak) 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon HD 6300/6400/6500/6600 series (Sumo) (driver version 1016.4 (VM), device version OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1016.4), 512MB, 479MB available, 710 GFLOPS peak) 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | SETI@home | URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID 6707917; resource share 100 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | Reading preferences override file 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | Preferences: 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | max memory usage when active: 2804.95MB 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | max memory usage when idle: 5048.92MB 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | max disk usage: 50.00GB 7/15/2013 4:54:24 PM | | Not using a proxy 7/15/2013 6:51:04 PM | | Account manager contact succeeded I am not a techie person so any help you can give me would be appreciated. Have you got your computer set to automatically download and install Microsoft updates and patches? |

no, I select the updates I want to download. I won't be downloading AMD updates for a long while thru microsoft updates. And I won't be upgrading Catalyst until I've heard that it works well with BOINC from people on several of the different programs either. |

Well, while it never hurts to oust the dust bunnies I don't think heat is your problem. Unfortunately I'm not much for Ati problems. There was a thread about problems similar to yours but I can't seem to find it at the moment and I'm getting nasty looks from my boxer because it's doggy din-din time. I'll look into it further after 'he who must be fed' is taken care of. No doubt one of the in situ gurus will be by to lend a hand. Sorry for not being of more help. |

I have 5 of those who must be fed too - 4 cats and a dog so I definitely understand that...Do you think they stand in front of he mirror all day and practice those looks they give us? I do appreciate your efforts and thoughts. |

The only things I've come up with are if you're running 24/7 maybe a complete shutdown, turn off, wait 5 seconds then turn on so any/all memory on the gpu gets refreshed. If that doesn't do it you could try resetting the project in case a file has gotten corrupted. |

no, I select the updates I want to download. I won't be downloading AMD updates for a long while thru microsoft updates. I would clean the Driver with Atiman Uninstaller, install Catalyst 12.10, and see what happens. I've used Atiman Uninstaller twice on my Windows 8 Host and it worked fine both times. Beware, if there is an existing problem with your system, it might not respond well to being 'cleaned'. |

not familiar with atiman uninstaller but used the catalyst/amd uninstaller (which know goes back and removes previous files entirely so I trust it) earlier this month before I reinstalled the earlier version of catalyst. All the other programs that use GPU are working fine, only Seti having issues. I don't think this is the answer. 7 more Seti@home and 4 more SetiBeta@home computation errors just this morning all occuring at the 4-6 second time frame of the run. One thing have not tried is to reset the programs, so I will do that to see if it makes any difference as something may have gotten corrupted. Now I just have to wait and see for the next batch of jobs to see that makes any difference. |

AMD does make a special 'AMD Catalyst Un-install Utility' that was designed to remove the OpenCL parts the 'Normal' Catalyst doesn't remove. The AMD Utility only works in Windows 7 though, don't try it on Windows 8. Most other programs don't use OpenCL the way SETI MB7 does, so, they won't display the problems the SETI App does, when you 'backup' the driver. Since you have admitted to backing up the driver, that is most likely your problem. It left parts behind. ATIman Uninstaller was built to fix that exact problem, works for me and most other people... |

The other thing that needs to be done is delete the compilations the app did under the old driver, and let the app/compiler produce new compilations. Claggy |

When the reset finished Seti came up as not being a priority for jobs so I don't know how long it will be until jobs come up on my task list again...I am participating in a lot of different programs. Backing up the driver? where did I admit to doing that? or is this a confusion in terminology thing here that I am misunderstanding what you mean? Oh and I have windows 7 not windows 8 so you don't need to worry about that difference you mentioned. |

Barbra, in the Boinc manager go to and left click on the projects tab, then left click on every project, one at a time, and then left click on the suspend button to stop the project from running. Do this for every project you run BUT Seti. This will leave seti as the only project running and speed up troubleshooting. When you get seti running correctly you can go back and resume the other projects. |

The other thing that needs to be done is delete the compilations the app did under the old driver, and let the app/compiler produce new compilations. You might be able to correct things by deleting a few files. The MB7 App creates a number of files in the Hidden folder ProgramData/BOINC/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu. You would want to find and delete the files with names similar to; MultiBeam_Kernels_r1843.clHD5_Sumo.bin_V7 r1843_IntelRXeonRCPUE5462280GHz.wisdom MB_clFFTplan_Sumo_8_r1843.bin -> MB_clFFTplan_Sumo_524288_r1843.bin There are a lot of the last ones... The program will rebuild the files the next time you start BOINC. |

The other thing that needs to be done is delete the compilations the app did under the old driver, and let the app/compiler produce new compilations. I cleared out as many of these types of messages as I could find. I did not find any of the r1843_IntelRXeonRCPUE5462280GHz.wisdom type messages in my files to delete at all. Seti Beta@ home seems to be running ok now as 2 jobs have run for over 10 minutes without computation errors at all instead of errors within seconds, however Seti@home is computation erroring at the 34 second mark now instead of the 4-10 second mark. |

Well, now another job has gone past the minute mark so maybe I spoke too soon on Seti @ Home...lets see how this goes for a bit longer. Clearing those files out and letting them reset may have just been the needed thing here! Thank you for telling me how to do that! I never would have come up with that on my own! BTW, AMD send me a message today that version 13.8 of Catalyst is available for beta testing should anyone be interested in giving it a go... |

Wanted to report back that Claggy's suggestion apparently did work for me as after deleting several of those files both Seti@home and SetiBeta@home are both running just fine on my computer. I never would have come up with those suggestions on my own as possibilities to take care of the problems so I am very grateful and appreciative for the help you all have given to me. Thank you thank you thank you! |

I keep getting Error Messages (as per details Below) that reads ... 3/08/2013 4:13:41 PM | SETI@home | Task 08ja12ab.28863.13564.14.12.46_3 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 3/08/2013 4:13:41 PM | SETI@home | If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. What are the Circumstances/Outcome if I Do RESET The Project: I realise I may Lose any Uncredited Tasks. Would I be better off Suspending The Project until All Current Tasks are Completed and Reported/Updated, or at least Suspending All Tasks except those Currently Running, and allow those Running Tasks to Finish, before Resetting Project? There is no impact on tasks that have been returned and reported they continue to be validated as if nothing has happend. Resetting only affects the client, it is reset to clear out any tasks that are hanging, or apps that are misbehaving, I think it also clears you current cache, but don't worry, you will get a nice new batch of tasks to work on, and "old" tasks will either be resent to you, or to another cruncher so nothing is lost to the project. If you only get this message infrequently then don't worry about it, but if it gets to be a frequent event then do a reset. All looks good, do not reset. (you return good results) This are not "Error Messages" and they will not disappear if you reset the project. 'Task ... exited with zero status but no 'finished' file' happens when: - the computer clock changes up/down - other process uses too much CPU/GPU/HDD/DVD (e.g. bad DVD disk which is hard to read, antivirus scans, games, ...)
