What defines that king, surely not ego, professionalism maybe? Could it just be numbers? The ability to tell everyone how great you are? I know many I would suggest and many more I wouldn't. At the present time though who do you think is that shining star for Seti@home? Pick one and say why, let's give them some credit.

I don't think there is a "King" of SETI... We ALL are important, and do our parts.

Even on an Athlon XP 2200+ w/ only 512 MB RAM, like me... It's currently taking 20+ Hours to crunch a WU that BOINC estimates 8 Hours for...

There are probably slower machines than mine still crunching. However; there are MANY faster ones, too. Should a FAST PC w/ GPU crunching capability be given more regard here than someone slow like me? I don't think so... We are all equal in donating our time, money in hardware, and electricity to something we love!

That's how I feel about it. FWIW...

I think we are all equal...those who are able give more in terms of time/talent/funding (and greatly appreciated) but I see no one person above anyone else.

I don't think there is a single person who could be called "king" of Seti@Home, but there are several people whom I think of immediately as major players or "stars" if you will.

I would start with the Staff - Dr. Eric K, Matt L, and Jeff C, who keep the lights on and the servers humming, while also tending to other projects in the Space Studies Lab. Remember, this project has NO full-time employees....

Other names that come to mind are the VOLUNTEER software developers and testers, who also spend a lot of time im the forums helping others work out problems. Richard Haselgrove, Joe Segur, Jason Gee, Raistmer, William of the Orange avatar, and others whose names escape me right now....

Folks who have put their money where their mouths are, and led fund-raising drives to help keep the project afloat - Mark Sattler, uli, Slavac and the GPU Users Group, to name just a few.

There are many others who could fit into either of the last two categories. Sometimes my memory is shorter than my fingernails. But all of the above have welcomed me and taught me things I needed to know about this project, and I hope I have helped others by passing along that knowledge when I could.

My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next, as the true king of Seti :)

In seriousness though each and every cruncher is the equal King or Queen of Seti. Whether you crunch one workunit a week, or ten thousand workunits an hour. Each person is voluntarily doing their bit for the search. As to who the shining stars are, I'd have to say the folks in the lab.

I'll go along with that, including the last part.

Just to chime in.........
No matter what some may think.......

I do not really consider myself 'King of Seti'.

Yes, I am very proud of what I am able to accomplish for the project, and I do give myself a smack on the back once in a while.

That being said, there are many others who have come and gone before me.

I think the only 'King of Seti' would be Eric Korpela.
He and Angela have both rejoiced with me at times and also given me a kick or two when I deserved it.

Without server uptime, I would be nothing here, eh?

I'll give credit where it is due........and he is us.

Meows to Eric.

I think he was taken to court.

Sued his shorts off, if I recall.

No chance of that here.

There is no king, Eric might be a prince but only because the queen allows it.

Long live Queen Angela.

There is no king in the SETI@home project but full of shareholders !
Each WU performed is entitled to one share.
There is therefore very big shareholders such Mark...
And there are also means shareholders, small and very small shareholders, but each owns the project as long as it advances the science !
SETI@home4EVER ! :)

LOL!!! If I'm the queen, I'm afraid that just makes Ol' Pookers the royal consort.

Mind you, Eric has been "consorting" with a certain Crazy Raccoon Lady for many years now ..... ;-)

Over which, in the interests of decorum, we much draw a veil....

And we don't really need to know anything more on that subject. ;-)
