Check the situation in Task Manager as follows - look at the Performance tab with View -> Show Kernel Times checked. If you see a lot of red utilization, then you are running too many CPU threads.

This will manifest itself as CPU WUs having elapsed time much more than CPU time - they are being stretched out because of the CPU "thrashing". They should show as at least 90% CPU/Elapsed ratio.

That said, your CPU is running 8 virtual cores (right?); how many are you allowing SETI use (in the Preferences under Tools in BOINC)? You should allow at least 1 free even if you were not running GPU for the reason stated above. Also, do NOT allow AP on CPU - it uses vast amounts of time per WU - just takes too many hours to do a typical WU.

I have an i7-3820 with 4 cores/8 threads, and I allow it to use 7 threads, and it runs pretty well (CPU/Elapsed 95%+) even though I have also a GTX 680 running 3 threads. When I have only MB WUs, I can run 10WUs simultaneously with no stretchout.

NOTE: APs on the GPU seem to require one core per thread; SETI 7 requires only the 0.04 default to run OK (with the 1 reserved CPU thread). I am getting 30K RAC with the one card; I would be 50K+ if I had 2.

Just 2 thoughts if you're trying to improve RAC:

1) You're not cruching Astropulse on cpu or gpu. Most people find that AP can help the RAC, especially the gpu tasks. If you did not elect Astropulse when you made the Lunatics install, you may need to redo the install to add those sections to your app_info.xml file. If they are already installed, then just check your project preferences on the website to see if AP is checked as "yes".

2). Looks like you are running with the default values for the cuda 50 application. Your 770's should be able to work a bit harder if you set some custom values in the mbcuda.cfg file. At least move the priority to something besides "below normal", which is what you are now running per your Stderr files:

SETI@home using CUDA accelerated device GeForce GTX 770
pulsefind: blocks per SM 4 (Fermi or newer default)
pulsefind: periods per launch 100 (default)
Priority of process set to BELOW_NORMAL (default) successfully

The file is in the SETI project data directory and has some information on how to select values. Or perhaps others can suggest good values for your cards .

Hi, where do I set the priority for cpu work units? I have installed luntatics 0.41 & checked the task manager & found the cpu tasks AKV8C_R1846_WINX86_SSE2X.EXE running at low priority. My GPU Task is running at above normal.

Thanks in advance
Rae

That´s ok, by doing that boinc uses all the avaiable spare cicles of your cpu without interfearing with your job, in theory is the way boinc must work.

If you realy want to change the priority you need to use a program to do that automaticaly like Fred´s priority tool.

All Fred´s programs could be found in his page:

http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/

The latest version of the Priority Program could be found in:

http://efmer.eu/download/boinc/priority/Priority_1_2.zip

All programs are free to use, but if you like and want to help, my sugestion is to make a donation to help de development of new versions.
