I can speak with first hand expeirence about end of life care. My Dad had sufferd with parkinsons for years. His final 4 months were in and out of a hospital and a glorified nursing home. H ewas in stage 4 of parkinsons and the Dr. told us even a feeding tube was only going to buy maybe a month. Dad was in pain he could hardly swallow his own spit and just wanted to go home and have a beer and watch the sunset a few more times. We finally found out that he could go home provided that a hospice could help out. He went home on a Wednesday. Saw a few sunsets and had a beer on Saturday night. He then went into a coma and died on Sunday night. There comes a point in every humans life where the pain is no longer worth living, My opinion and it is just that is to ask how the patient wants to go. My Dad was sick of the needles and medicine, was sick of having his butt wiped, He wanted to die at home with his family around him. And he did. There is dignity in life, Why cant the government let there be dignity in death? [/quote] Old James |

Why cant the government let there be dignity in death? <cynic on> Because a politician nor a bureaucrat can make money or grab power with dignity </cynic off> |
